What’s a Consular ID?

It’s a photo identification card issued by your government’s consulate office. Contact your local consulate for details. We accept eligible Consular IDs from the following countries:

  • Brazil
  • Uruguay

Present your Consular ID in person at a retail store:

You can use an eligible Consular ID, such as the Matricula Consular ID from Mexico, as proof of your identity when you apply in person for a new smartphone and wireless service.

Also accepted in person: Bring your passport with an M, J, or F visa annotation for an in-store credit check.

How do I know if I have an acceptable form of ID to sign up for T-Mobile service?

T-Mobile accepts the following forms of ID—eligible Consular ID card, Matricula Consular ID, U.S. driver’s license, U.S. Passport or Permanent Resident Card (Green Card), valid passport with an M, J, or F visa annotation, state ID, U.S. Military ID, or Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

Can I sign up for T-Mobile service if I don’t have a Social Security number?

T-Mobile has a variety of Prepaid and Postpaid product and service offerings for customers who do not currently have a Social Security number (SSN). You can visit your local T-Mobile store to discuss options with a representative and determine which offering is best for you.

Which countries are included in the acceptable form of ID for Matricula/Consular IDs?

Currently, Consular IDs are accepted from the following countries:

  • Mexico
  • Guatemala
  • Dominican Republic
  •  Honduras
  •  El Salvador
  •  Colombia
  •  Ecuador
  •  Brazil
  • Uruguay
