How do I reset my iPhone?

Experiencing major software errors? Looking to sell your device? Here’s how to perform a factory reset on your iPhone.

Before you reset your iPhone.

Resetting your iPhone will completely remove your settings and your personal info, like contacts, photos, etc. So, before you do a factory reset, try restarting your iPhone. This may help address minor software issues.

If you decide to do a factory reset, you should back up your iPhone first.

Choose a backup method

Before you get started, choose the method that's best for you.

Back Up with iCloud

  1. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
  2.  Go to Settings > [your name], and tap iCloud.
  3. Tap iCloud Backup.
  4. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process ends. Under Back Up Now, the date and time of your last backup is shown. If you get an alert that you don't have enough iCloud storage space to complete the backup, you can purchase additional iCloud storage through Apple


Back up with your Mac using the Finder

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open a Finder window.
  2. Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  3. If asked for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps. 
  4. Select your device on your computer.  
  5. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your device or Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup. Select the Encrypt local backup checkbox and create a password.

Resetting your iPhone.

1. Select Settings.

2. Select General.

3. Select Transfer or Reset

4. If asked, enter your passcode or Apple ID password

5. Select Erase All Content and Settings. 

6.Select “Continue”

If you have an eSIM, you can choose to keep the eSIM and erase data or to delete the eSIM and data. To keep the eSIM on the phone, select “Keep eSIM and Erase Data” when prompted. If you erase your eSIM, you will need to contact T-Mobile to reactivate your cellular plan.

7.Wait for your device to erase

It might take a few minutes to completely erase your data.
