Possible to switch SIM to new phone while off network?
My old phone is acting up and I can get a good local deal on a new phone while I am overseas. Is it possible to install my current active SIM in the new phone and have it work before returning to the US?
Thank you.
You don't have to waut until you are on the T-Mobile USA network. There is no phone registration. The system checks when if connects fhat the device is VoLTE compatible with T-Mobile. If so, it works. that is all done in a matter of seconds.
The s23 Ultra varies a lot from region to region. The US models end in U/U1. If it is a B variant, the region it ia from can have a big impact on if it will work or not. The Chinese and the South American versions are the least compatible.

You might need to be on T-Mobile's network to activate a new (previously unused) SIM on your account but there should be no issues moving an active SIM from one phone to another.

You can put your SIM in any device you wish. It needs to be VoLTE compatible with T-Mobile USA's implementation to register on the T-Mobile network and needs to support the bands used by T-Mobile USA. 12, 25, 41, 66, and 71

Thank you for your reply, which if I understand correctly means I must wait until I get back on the T-Mobile network before I can register the old SIM in the new phone, correct?
The "new" phone is actually a used S23 Ultra.
