Afternoon/Evening Speed Degradation

I’ve been a TMobile 5G customer for a few months now with the black 5G gateway. Initially everything was fine, I was regularly getting 300-500 Mbps with little fluctuation throughout the day. For the last month or so I’ve noticed a significant decrease of speed after 3pm or so - down to 0-10m Mbps.

I have gone through dozens of repositioning, power-cycling, and other solutions the Customer Care has
suggested, all to no avail.

As many others with this issue have noted, it is not an issue of gateway position as the same gateway position yields 500Mbps during the day and 5Mbps after 3pm and I can see the RSRQ, RSRP and SINR metrics degrade. Nonetheless I’ve still tried repositioning several times using the provided guides.

This is my first TMobile product and is incredibly frustrating. What recourse do Home 5G users have to resolve this beyond repositioning and power-cycling the gateway?

@KeyserSoze, a few questions to help us help you.

What are your metrics - are you confident your gateway is located in the best possible location? Your metrics will show the quality of your connection. In your T-Mobile Internet app > tap “MORE” at the bottom of the Home Screen > tap “Advanced cellular metrics” > tap “5G” > and let us know your RSRQ, RSRP, SINR, and which band you are connected to. You should be on band n41 or n71. Look at the chart posted above in this thread for the ideal readings. To get the best readings, slightly rotate your gateway about 1/8th of a turn and then check the metrics to see if they change for the better. Repeat until you get the best metrics.

Also, you probably know that home internet service takes a backseat to regular cellular phone service, so if there are a lot of people on their phones near you (e.g., commute traffic near a freeway), then your speeds will drop a bit. Mine will drop from 0700-0900 and 1700-2000 hours on weekdays because I am near a freeway.

Let us know the results. I hope this helps.
