Gateway and Mesh Wi-Fi Extender Set Up

The T-Life app is the easiest way to set up your gateway.

  • The T-Life app will help you find the ideal location for your device - close to a window or high up on an upper floor or bookshelf. 
  • You can also check signal strength, monitor connected devices, update your network name/password, and more.
  • After you set up your gateway, then you can set up your mesh Wi-Fi extender.

Backup Plan Set Up

  1. Use the information above to set up your gateway using the T-Life app.
  2. Verify the SSID Network/Wi-Fi name for the Backup plan gateway is different from your primary gateway to avoid connection issues.
  3. When you're signed into T-Life with the T-Mobile ID associated to the Internet Backup plan line, you will see an overview of how the product works and how to use it.
    • Automatic connection: Switches on when an outage is detected. A G4AR Gateway and ethernet cable is required for automatic connection. If you need an ethernet cable for your G4AR Gateway, contact Customer Care to have it shipped to you at no charge.
    • Manual activation: You control when the Backup plan turns on or off. You can use this mode with any gateway..

 

 

 

Manage

Manage your Backup Plan using T-Life > Internet > Overview.

  • You must log into T-Life using the T-Mobile ID associated to the Internet Backup line.
  • You can use any phone/cellular connection to manage your Backup plan in T-Life.
  • Automatic Connection

    1. Place your T-Mobile gateway near your primary router and follow the steps above to set up your gateway.
    2. Use an ethernet cable to link your primary router to the LAN1 port on your T-Mobile gateway.
    3. Link any devices that should use Backup to T-Mobile Wi-Fi and enable auto-reconnect for each one.
    4. Select Set up automatic connection to complete setup.

     

    Manual Activation

    1. Place your T-Mobile gateway in a central location, ideally up high and near a window.
    2. Confirm automatic connection is off.
    3. Select Activate Backup Wi-Fi.
    4. Select T-Mobile Wi-Fi on each device you want to connect to Backup.
    5. Select Pause Backup Wi-Fi to turn it off and stop depleting time.
    • Confirm your remaining time in the section titled Monthly usage.
    • Time only counts when Backup is active. 100 hours reset each month and do not roll over.
    • Historical usage for the past three months can be viewed by selecting Backup usage history.
  • You get three 100-hour Backup passes per year at no extra charge for those instances when you run out of time in any given month. The Backup pass expires 30 days after adding it.

    1. Select Add more time.
    2. Choose 100-hour Backup Pass for $0.00 in the section Data/Time Passes.

Network Set Up

You can update your network name and password to improve your security and make it even easier to connect.

  1. From the My Wi-Fi screen, select My Networks.
  2. Select the network name that appears on the bottom of your gateway.
  3. Enter your personalized network name and password, then select Save.

Replacement Gateway Set Up

If you recently replaced your gateway, move your previous SIM card into your new gateway to activate it. Your SIM card is already active, and your service and settings will move to the new device alongside your SIM.
