Pixel 6A poor service

(7/11/23)

I have had a number of Pixel phones and have been a T-Mobile customer for 11 months.  I’d like to know why my wife and I are suddenly (in the last 10 days or so) having problems with EVERYTHING:  Dropped calls, poor voice quality, difficulty answering, slow text service, spotty or non-existent bluetooth, calls cutting in and out and NO Bars!

I haven’t done anything differently.  I’ve not moved.  I’ve not added any new aps.  I’ve not changed the internet coming into the house.  I’ve not readjusted my bluetooth settings.  The poor service is happening whether we are at home, on the road, or if I am with a client.

These days phone carriers are a dime a dozen, and if this problem doesn’t resolve soon, I will have to change carriers.  I had been told that T-Mobile was better than this.  I’m very disappointed.

    They are greyed out.

Differences compared to above, vs my phone.

    My phone:

    APN Protocol - IPv6

    APN Roaming protocol IPv4

Bearer- hspa, evdo_b, ehrpd, lte, hspap, gprs, edge, umts, Is95A, Is95B, 1xRTT, evdo_0, evdo_A, hsdpa, nr, hsupa

  • are your APN settings grayed out or are you able to make changes in there?

if yes then you might compare what its saying to this

    Android guide

    1. Open the Access Point Names or APNs menu.
      1. In Settings, look under Wireless & Networks or choose the Connections tab.
      2. Select Mobile network. You may need to choose More settings, More..., or More networks first.
      3. Select Access Point Names.
    2. Choose the T-Mobile APN if one is available. If not, select Menu and select new APN.
    3. Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN.
      • Name: T-Mobile
      • APN: fast.t-mobile.com (for LTE devices) or epc.tmobile.com (for non-LTE devices)

    4. Select MenuSave.
    5. Delete any other APNs that appear in the list. The FOTA APN can remain if available.
Select the APN that needs to be removed, then select MenuDelete APN.
    6. Verify there is a circle next to the remaining APN.
    7. Perform a soft reset. Hold down the power button until the device turns off and restarts.

I purchased the phone  at BestBuy. Correct, my phone is the only one running into this, my wife has an iPhone 13 and has no issues.

I forgot to mention, my original 6A, I removed the physical SIM and downloaded the e-sim, same issue. On my new 6A, I am using the e-sim only and still getting same network issues.

I would like to add to this. About a month ago, my Pixel 6A would randomly cut out, drop network service entirely. I had to keep either rebooting the phone or resetting the network settings which would help for a couple hours, until I noticed I had an exclamation mark next to the signal icon. T-Mobile said the coverage looked good around the area, and that it was my phone. Side note, my wife has an iPhone and doesn’t have these ongoing issues. I contact Google and luckily phone was under warranty, so they sent me to ubreakifix in which they replaced the system board. THIS DID NOT HELP. Google finally sent me a full replacement and the same issues are happening with this phone as well. I believe its the signal/antenna between the Pixel 6A and T-Mobile's network. I’m hesitant to get another Pixel if this same issue will keep happening. I did not have these issues From February, when I bought the phone, till August. Something is going on with the network.

purchased direct from TMO or from Google? wonder if its a APN deal? your phone is the only one running into this right? other TMO phones around you by chance to compare? heck if they replaced outthe board and phone itself but the only thing NOT changed was the sim card then it could be that.

Thanks Fireguy.  My wife took her phone to Best Buy ,(where she bought it) and they said it's not the phone.  She has an older model than I do ,(Pixel 4a as opposed to my 6a). I am going to try and fiddle with a few things in settings and see what happens.  The puzzlement is that both phones were working fine until 2 +/- weeks ago.  I don't know of anything that's changed.

Is it Aliens?!? Is it Sunspot Activity?!? LOL.

Or is it Electronic Ghosts?  🫣

  • if the problem happens everywhere with 2 phones then the problem isnt network. are there any other TMO phones NOT including your wife’s phone. another TMO phone not on your account would be best to test against. if they also have issues then its a wide spread issue..but i have a feeling they wont see any problems in the same places you two do.
