5G SAGECOM GATEWAY - DISABLING WIFI

For the past two years, I have disabled(TURNED OFF COMPLETELY) both the 2.4 and 5 GHz Wifi bands and only use the ethernet port on this router. This is what I want and had working !

I currently have a SAGECOM Model FAST 5688W Gateway Router only after recently replacing the previous one which TMobile chose to replace after my recent complaint about not being able to disable both WIFI bands. I was told by the REP that I would be able to disable WIFI using the T-Life app. This is not true. I also spoke to a level 2 tech and they lead me through a series of dead ends.

I have disabled(Shut OFF) the 2.4 GHz band using the HINT Control app in the band management tab BUT I am unable to turn off the 5GHz band as it states "UNABLE TO DISABLE 5GHz"

I have tried to disable this using a direct ethernet connection from my Android to the router. Still have the same challenge.

So, What has changed on this router that is NOW preventing me from disabling both Wifi bands ? I just want ethernet connectivity out of this router, period. No WIFI

  • How do you change config on the Fast 5688W without using wifi?

    It is possible.

Get the third-party app "HINT Control" for your Android or iOS phone or tablet.

Thanks, that's very interesting.  It has mostly positive ratings on the iOS app store, but one person reported needing to reset the gateway after turning off the 5gHZ radio recently.

I've come to terms with the gateway operating as it does, having architected my home network around its limitations.  So, at least at this point, I'm not adventurous enough to try something unsupported by the vendor.  But it's encouraging that the app does exist, and I may revisit it later.

I wanted to do the same thing but determined that it is not possible.  The current generation of gateways used by T-Mobile have extremely limited customization capabilities.  I started a related thread a month ago or so, and there is at least one other recent thread about the lack of admin/config access.
