International cellular data
I am traveling in Morocco. Before I left the US I checked to be sure I have free unlimited international data usage here on my Magenta plan. For the last three days, I have not been able to send or receive texts on my iPhone. The roaming label says Orange, which is a common carrier outside the US. I have had 3-5 bars the entire time, and I can’t even send on WiFi from the hotel. I have checked and rechecked Settings and have rebooted several times. Why is cellular data not working?

iPhones require a data connection for SMS and MMS messages through iMessage. You can thanks Apple for that. How long have you been in Morocco for? Unlimited International data is at 2G speeds. It is possible that the speed is just too slow to be useable by iMessage. If you have been there for quite a while and used a lot of data, then you might fall under the excessive roaming scenario where your data is cut off. You should have received a text about that though before hand.
