Hey there @Lostspace Most people use the built-in messaging app to send and receive text messages. There are some third party apps that you can also download and use. 

Are you currently having issues with messaging or just looking for alternate options?

Your device should automatically receive a SMS when one is sent to your number.  Did you purchase your device from T-Mobile?  Are your APN settings correct?
