Texting My Friend In Canada from America

Can I text my friend in Canada with a Canadian phone? I live in America with a American phone and the basic Magenta plan.

    The Magenta plan should have texting to Canada for free, not sure if your friends plan has it for free. @syaoran will be able to be of more help.

Since Canada is in the NANP, they are addressed just like US numbers. As the others point out, it may cost the Canadian recipient to reply so they may want to do so via an IM app.
