Controlling Router Setup

I’ve just set up my 5G router, the white one with 54 in the product name.

I am really disappointed that when I log into the router’s ip address, the home page is a vast desert?  It has none of the controls I am accustomed to seeing on a router.  The mobile app is not much better.

the app doesn’t even give me information about my router

the 2.5 ghz band is currently using channel 7, which insidder warns me is not standard, and there is no way to change this.

I can’t set the range of ip addresses it will assign.

I am unable to connect printers and other electronics which I prefer to have at fixed IP addresses.  Not tried DHCP on these yet.

I can’t change the names of the devices, and most are just the mac address!

These are just some of the more glaring issues.

Call this “5G Router 0.1”

You can manage the gateway through the T-Mobile app.  There are 13 channels for 2.4GHz wireless that are commonly used.  12 and 13 are not available in the US.  Channel 1 can cause issues with cheap WiFi devices amd Nintendo consoles.  2 through 11 should be fine.  The router usually chooses thenchannel with the least interference.  You can manually set the channel in the T-Mobile app.  For the most comoatibility, channels 3, 6, and 9 are your best options.

On my 5G gateway Sagemcom 5688w you cannot set anything, the 192.168.12.1 login is just info, no settings allowed and the app is useless.. just wireless name and 2.5Gb and or 5Gb  Unless you know a secret way in??

    Thank you for your reply.

Sure.  That would be nice, eh?

--->» Did you notice I said “you cannot specify the channel?”

That is exactly one of the problems: you cannot specify what channels you want the 5G router to use, because both windows and mobile interfaces essentially suck.

There is NO FACILITY for this.

I’ve had a dozen routers over the years, and I’ve never seen one as weak as this as far as configuring it is concerned.

“I am considering connecting  it to a REAL router...”

    For example?  What and how?

+1 on that, apparently they locked out access with a firmware update.. Hopefully they realise this is not acceptable to anyone with more than a simple network at home.

I am considering connecting  it to a REAL router.. then I can change all the settings I like!
