Download Speedtest from the app store and run it and it will let you know what network you're connected to.
.."unlocked phone" can not be completely unlocked from one carrier to another. a phone is purchased and preprogrammed for a particular carrier, then you sim card associated with your number and billing info is placed in the phone to link it. one of the biggest misconceptions about unlocked phones is they are not. unlocked phones are for folks who need a temp phone til they can go back to their current carrier during repairs etc. you do not get complete and full services
