Paramount Plus Local Channel

I’m new to T-Mobile internet. I didn’t have any problems hooking it up. However, my “local channel” for Paramount Plus has switched from Columbia, MO (20 minutes from my house) to St. Louis, MO (2 hours from my house). Paramount Plus says it’s an IP address issue. Any suggestions on how to fix this so I can go back to my Columbia channel?

FWIW, I stream Paramount+ and my actual local channel through my PC using HDMI and my Firefox browser using the LocationGuard extension, which allows establish a fixed location of your own choosing.

Paramount+ uses the browsers API to determine location (as long as you allow Paramount+ location access). Without the add-in my location is always incorrect for sites that utilize the browsers API. Same technique applies to YouTube TV but not thoise sites that rely on IP address geolocation services for location (e.g. Hulu). The extension is also available for Chrome.

Got used to doing this when on satellite internet where point of poresence and be thousands of miles away and was tired of assumption that I was in Salt Lake when I’m in Virginia.

    Regarding VPNs…

You can't program the T-Mobile gateway as a VPN, but you can use a client-based service like Mullvad VPN. Almost all VPN services give you a trial period, so install it on your streaming device and see if it helps.

That is due to how the towers relay to where they connect to the servers.  That is why the locatiin can be 100+ miles away and in some cases, even a different state.  There is nothing that can be done about it outside of using a good Smart DNS service.  Most VPN's are not compatible with TMHI.

I'm a little confused. I, too, have Paramount + as a streaming service but don't use it to access local TV. I think the problem is with Paramount misidentifying your location and giving you a major market feed instead of Columbia, which is a secondary market. (No insult intended.) I have a similar problem with PBS. I am midway between two major markets, and when I use their app to try and change my local station, I get a message that there is a problem with my choice of providers.

Are you using a streaming device, or are you using the software that is on your TV, e.g., Google TV. That might be something for you to try to see if Paramount + behaves differently when you change the way the signal is fed to your TV.

I actually just dealt with this...sad to say but TMobile customer service are no help whatsoever, if you are trying to get local channel through Paramont + local live, you have to "chat" with Paramont Plus and hope they understand what you are asking. I was able to get them to do an override on location, however since I was calling from my "cell phone", the rep did the override which requires adding specific device and she added my phone instead of my TV. That being said I am able to cast live channel to my TV but will be doing another chat to get it fixed. Yes I could get a DNS but should not have to do so to get something we pay for from Paramont. I am not happy at all with TMobile Tech Support or CS, I knew more than they did and ended up ending "calls" after 1 1/2 hours. I figured out the problem and researched finding Paramont can override manually location and it stays on local, just make sure they are doing override on the device you use for local live.
