If i get a replacement 5g home internet device, does it have a new IP address?

I’m getting a replacement for the “5G” home internet device, and would like to know if it’s going to have a new IP address associated with it. I’ve looked through many forums but haven’t found an answer, thanks.

I’m guessing you mean the wifi IP and not the connection to the cell tower? The wifi IP address is a static 192.168.12.1 for all the T-Mobile gateways.

  • The common configuration from T-Mobile is to have the 192.168.12.1 IP address reserved for the gateway IP. The DHCP server will run the same scope so the LAN network will be 192.168.12.0/24. The DHCP scope is not advertised but I suspect it starts with 100 or so and goes up to 254. There are only 64 hosts allowed on the gateway LAN so a full scope for the segment is not required.

The clients may or may not get the same IP address from the DHCP server. If the address is available then it could get the same IP address. If not the DHCP server will provide a new offer to the client. So, the local LAN addresses could stay the same for clients but it is not a given.

The external IP address the gateway obtains would also probably be a variable but users have no control over that either.
