G5 wifi
Well, I can understand that. If you call T-Mobile support and explain your situation I would hope they would make the extra effort to help out a senior citizen.
Just flipping a switch to get the Roomba to connect is not that simple. Your Roomba probably worked just fine with the older Verizon equipment because they were both speaking 2.4G.
Now with the T-Mobile gateway the manner in which it handles the communication with devices it may be trying to direct the communication to the 5G vs 2.4G and the conversation breaks down due to that as the Roomba can only communicate on the 2.4G.
So, the software switch, and a minor configuration change has to be done with the gateway to make that work. If you don’t have the T-Mobile home internet application on your phone that is the first thing you will need.
What you also need is a younger tech oriented person to help you “flip the switch”. Really T-Mobile customer support engineers should be able to handle walking you through such a minor task.
Flipping the switch so to speak:
- With a T-Mobile support person, launch the T-Mobile home internet application.
- The T-Mobile engineer walks you through the admin login
- They walk you through the interface to change flip the switch.
- They explain adding the second network name (SSID) and authentication
- The configuration is saved.
- Next the attempt to join the Roomba to the 2.4G network is done.
The Roomba will still run around the house and clean but you will loose the additional controls without the wireless connection for the Roomba application.
That is the way it should work. I cannot say 100% that the separation of the 2.4G from the 5G radios will allow the Roomba to communicate to your phone again. Based upon others having similar problems that may resolve the problem. The process to make the change is not difficult for a person that understands the application and menu options.
