Can't change voicemail message

I chose to use my name for voicemail. I thought it would say leave message for ‘Jane Doe’ but when I called it from a friends phone the voicemail just said ‘Jane Doe’. I then went in and recorded a custom msg saying ‘hi, this is Jane. please leave a message’. I selected that to answer. When I go in to play the current voicemail message that is what I hear. When I call again from a friends phone it just says ‘Jane Doe’. I can’t seem to change it.
