Gateway interface is WORTHLESS

Who in their right mind would set up a gateway interface that does not allow control of the gateway from a computer on the network?  This gateway interface is WORTHLESS.  When the Gateway looses internet connectivity and the WIFI fails, a phone cannot connect to restart or find out what’s going on.  This is just a totally dumb interface!  When will it get fixed?
