Should I ditch T-Mobil - both internet and cellular?

T-Mobil has problems where I live (Tri-Valley/San Ramon population = 361,000/86,000 respectively) and its not like I am in the middle of nowhere.  In my house and around my house there seems to be a dead zone in which cellular signal drops to zero and calls drop or are partially connected in some twilight zone manner where only one person can hear the other. The zone moves around depending on the weather or other non-quantifiable conditions.  In addition to the blackhole of cellular signal, my T-Mobil internet is problematic even when signal is strong (3-4 bars) on the internet tower.  Lots of times my Wi-Fi buffers - especially on weekends when demand is heavy.

Called T-Mobil many times complaining about the signal strength at my house.  They told me to go to the HOA and request land for a tower. The HOA said go to the city because the city regulates towers.  The city said that unlike Verizon and AT&T - they do not have a standard tower design filed with the city - so they (T-Mobil) can’t easily put one up to expand coverage.

Next call by me:  T-Mobil did some technical manipulation on the lines/towers and supposedly reduced/eliminated the problem (last month).  It seemed to work.

This past week had problem again. Called T-Mobil and I was told by the customer service technical representation that everything that could be done was done (in terms of tower signals to my neighborhood) and he was going to “rip the band aid off” and told me that “I should find a different provider”.

With that statement - my 10+ years of being a T-Mobil customer was shredded and deemed worthless.

So I pose this question: Should I ditch T-Mobil and find a provider that provides better internet service?

  • I would recommend the try before you buy approach with At&t/Verizon as well.  TMobile isn't the best when it comes to coverage in many areas, as well as their management fixing these issues.  Typically the do try to make up for it with high speed.

If you have the option on your device, you can do a temporary unlock (1month), and try both at&t and Verizon.  They may be better... Or not.
