Gateway Placement

I've had T-Mobile internet service about a year now. I have it placed upstairs. Generally I get decent quality of connection and speed on my phone and computer. But I spend a massive majority of my time in the basement and there's where I start having issues.  My TV and subsequent streaming apps gets very chaotic at times. I've recently been considering putting the router in the basement to see if this improves.  Has anyone else tried this? Or thoughts on where in basement I should put it? Thanks !

  • This would depend on how strong your signal is.  I suspect that your signal will be weak.

You would probably be better off to get a WiFi extender of some sorts to get signal from your TMHI.

In general, you’ll want to place your TMHI in the location where it gets its ‘best’ service … then extend your service using either ethernet or WiFi extender/mesh.

Moving TMHI from a location that has good service (upstairs) where it might be almost line of sight to a tower to a basement, which is blocked by concrete + dirt + anything else in between your house and the tower.  Doesn’t hurt to try - just plug it in.
