if I suspend my line, can I fwd calls and txts to another phone number?

I may be suspending my T-Mobile line while living abroad for a few months.  While there, I'll be using a SIM card for a local cell provider which will require me to use a new phone number.  Can I have calls and texts from my suspended T-Mobile number forwarded to me new SIM/number?
