Starlink vs Apple Satellite service

Hi, I recently enrolled in the Starlink Beta. I tried it out for the first time on my iPhone 16Pro today at a rural park with no cell coverage. Both the Apple native satellite service, and the Starlink service seemed to be available. How do I force it to choose the Starlink? When the message came up from iOS offering to send messages via satellite, I just dismissed it, believing this would activate Starlink. Is that right? Up on the right hand top corner, I could see a satellite symbol, which I believe is for Starlink. When I tried to send some SMS messages (green on the iPhone), none of them went through.

is there any documentation on how this is to be used? Thanks.

Go to Settings, Cellular, Network Selection, turn off Automatic, and it will start searching for networks.  T-Mobile - Starlink will appear but you will only be able to successfully connect to it if no other cellular network is available.

Sometimes, you need to manually select the T-Mobile - Starlink network.  When you are connected to Starlink, the carrier will ahow as T-Mobile - Starlink.
