5g home internet

Why is it that even though I have it set to only 4g on the app it still constantly switches to 5g. The bad part about it is that It doesn’t even work. Is why I have it set to 4g. Someone please explain to me how to fix this stupid machine. I’ve tried restarting gateway even restarting the whole device.
