receive text while abroad
Currently I’m a prepaid user and I’m going to Japan. Can I receive text/calls when I’m abroad?
I’d suggest that you have some backup plan. Google Voice over WiFi would be a candidate.

Prepaid roaming is incredibly hit or miss. Your best chance for things to work, would be if y our device is WiFi Calling compatible with T-Mobile USA. Turning that on while connected to WiFi will have calls and texts come through normally but only for T-Mobile USA compatible Wii Calling devices.

Wifi Calling will allow you to receive calls and texts just like you would in the US. Just make sure to ensure you don't encur any roaming charges, that you put the device in Airplane mode before turning on WiFi.

Thanks for reply! Yes currently I enabled wifi calling on my phone, so that should be fine right?

I agree. Use a local carrier. Claro works very well all over North and South America and it use the T Mobil network flawlessly while I am in the US. Unfortunately Claro is not available with a US phone number.
So as an answer to your question, very hit and miss for receive SMS message from the US while abroad. Best if you can use another form of two step identification like particular companies app as your second form of the second verifiication.
