Re: 5G Internet Showing Incorrect Location
Interesting. Since the end of September TMobile has seen the light and has me in San Diego where I belong. Maybe enough people complained and it wasn't worth the time to explain the foolishness to thousands of customers. Hopefully this is the case.61Views0likes0CommentsRe: 5G Internet Showing Incorrect Location

IP-addresses say nothing about your physical location other than your country and who owns the IP-address block. IP-address based geolocation services have been inherently inaccurate but worked well with traditional wire-line based services due to the manner in which those carriers assigned IP-addresses by region. Mobile Carriers (with an emphasis on the mobile) don’t have that luxury. Neither do satellite internet providers where your point of presence is thousands of miles away at a Gateway typically. Nevertheless. some content providers have figured out how to properly address location and provide more flexible mechanisms to endure the proper home location. YouTube TV stands out as a prime example of this. FUBO, Hulu and other that rely on third party IP-address based geolocation services should follow YoutTube TV’s lead. @syaoran provides the short form answer. I get what you are saying. However, prior to January 2024 it worked the way I expected, that is I'm located just north of San Diego and my IP address was in San Diego, not los Angeles20Views1like0CommentsRe: 5G Internet Showing Incorrect Location

Doesn’t seem there is a resolution so when Iwent on the hunt for other options, looks like Iam going to try out slingtv because they have an option to allow for a physical antenna on my house to obtain my local stations and they load straight to the slingtv app. This may notbe very helpful for rural locations, but there is a way to find the local channels dish locations and get a distance. Has anyone else tried this and have positive/negative remarks? You Tube TV gives you a setting to tell it which metro area you want.25Views0likes0CommentsRe: 5G Internet Showing Incorrect Location

I see that the 5G modem is just a stripped down mobile phone. Why is the location different. Is it because the phone connects with a local server at the tower? and the 5G ISP service is going thru a microwave connection? My guess is somewhere the phone is using GPS for location (it's called geolocation) and since the gateway doesn't have GPS, it defaults to the IP address.27Views0likes0CommentsRe: Home Internet Static IP
I got a better one. My MLB.TV account (paid for by Tmobile) needs an IP that specifies my location. Up until this year everything worked fine. This year my IP has my location as various suburbs of Los Angeles, whereas I'm physically just north of San Diego. I have to call MLB.TV once a week to get it changed so LA isn't blacked out. Tmobile tells me there's nothing they can do. Am I the only one experiencing this?16Views0likes0CommentsRe: Home Internet Static IP

There is a work around, Home internet subscribers should not have to spend an additional $18.00 dollar's a month for a business account, there are no additional cost to T-mobile to provide me with a dynamic or Static IP address. I am not running a business. I tried to get a home business account it I had ro prove I was a business. And I would lose some discounts because I was a business. No thanks16Views0likes0CommentsRe: external IP Address Geo Location

We don’t know exactly why, but my guess is that the tower we connect to is trunked to another metro location, which is what shows up on our gateway. I am about 1 hr from Oakland, yet my gateway shows my location is Oakland. my 2 cents. henry51 wrote: @lchasen, my IP address is in Providence, RI, but I’m in Vermont. I find myself having to change my location on store website that by default show store locations in the Providence, RI area. But other than that it’s not a problem for me, since I don’t stream live TV stations. How do you do that? It will be a problem for me once baseball season starts as it suddenly started assigning me an LA IP address and I'm 100 miles away in san diego. Up until about 3 weeks ago I was getting SD ip adress.9Views0likes0Comments
