Is it possible to see the actual text messages on a phone under your account?
Only if you have possession of the phone. You can only see the numbers that are texted.
Deleted text can't be recovered.
You can try taking the phone to a computer repair shop to see if they can be recovered but they would need to have the software. I've recovered deleted files on a PC but never tried it on a phone.
