Phone calls dropping

I don't know if it's my phone or the phone service that is dropping my calls and not sending my text messages.. Whenever I start taking the call disconnect and when I send a text it doesn't go thru until I restart my phone. . It doesn't happen all the time but when it do happen is totally aggravating. What is the problem?
