Persistent crackling when using Digits

When I use the Digits client from my MacBook Pro there is a very persistent crackling sound heard by the people I call. This happens from both the app and the web client and regardless of what microphone input I use. I’ve never had this issue with Google Voice or other apps which carry audio.

Any ideas?
