UScellular Renews Partnerships with YWCA and Girls Who Code

February 11, 2025

CHICAGO (Feb. 11, 2025) – UScellular has announced the extension of its partnerships with YWCA USA and Girls Who Code. As part of its renewed commitment, UScellular is donating nearly $350,000 to support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) initiatives and resources through YWCA and Girls Who Code that encourage young girls, especially in underserved communities, to explore careers in STEM.

“As we work together to empower the next generation of female leaders in STEM, UScellular is proud to continue its crucial relationships with YWCA USA and Girls Who Code,” said Kevin Lowell, executive vice president, chief people officer and head of communications at UScellular. “The goal of our investment is to break down barriers for young girls, encourage them to pursue STEM careers, and provide the opportunities to help build the needed skills to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.”

UScellular’s donation to YWCA USA will directly support the organization’s renowned TechGYRLS® program, which introduces young girls to STEM disciplines while cultivating critical thinking and problem-solving skills and builds upon work the organizations completed in 2024 to redesign the curriculum. Through this donation, the TechGYRLS® curriculum will be transformed into a digital resource that will be made available for educators and students nationwide. YWCA will also provide $10,000 grants to five local associations within UScellular’s footprint, helping them to incorporate TechGYRLS® into their existing after-school STEM programs.

"As STEM fields rapidly transform our world, TechGYRLS has never been more vital, ensuring that girls have the opportunity to shape our future," said Margaret Mitchell, CEO of YWCA USA. "With the generous support of our partner UScellular, YWCA is proud to empower the next generation of leaders and innovators to break barriers, pursue their passions, and lay the groundwork for impactful, game-changing careers."

Additionally, UScellular has partnered with Girls Who Code to expand the network of Girls Who Code clubs across Wisconsin and enhance existing programming designed to strengthen coding skills and confidence among young girls across the country.

Since 2009, UScellular has invested more than $47 million in monetary donations, technology resources and countless experiences to nonprofit organizations across the country.
