Discrepancy in data usage between phone and T-Mobile app
I am currently travelling abroad and did reset my data tracking in my iPhone the day before I left the USA. The phone shows I have used 660 MB of data since the reset. However, T-Mobile already shows 1.6 GB of international data used in less than a week, almost 3x as much and much more than I would typically use in the US. How can that discrepancy of a factor of 3 be? Shouldn't the phone be more accurate?
Phones are never accurate due to the aystem services that aren't logged that do various things in the background. Maintaining your iMessage connection, location services like find my phone whether you use the feature or not, maintaining your VoLTE/VoNR connection to the network, maintaining your data connection to the tower for best performance, etc.
The phone shows almost 400 MB in system services. I never had such a discrepancy (factor of 3!) while in the US. The phone and the data listed by T-Mobile are always within 10%.
