T-Mobile selling your # to hackers?

Had my cell number stolen by a dealer somewhere and put on a new sim and sold to hackers the other day. Anyone else having this happen? Not sure what the damage is as I am still picking up the pieces and changing passwords and checking my financial sites.

  • that you will need to discuss with gramps above. he has more info on this than i do. TMO will need to investigate what happened and how on their end. zero idea how long that’ll take.

a bit of a jump from “TMOs selling your number to hackers” to it being done by a dealer somewhere..which im willing to guess even if it was through a TMO store it was probably a 3rd party owned one..

Doesn’t make me feel any better about it. Some third-party-owned TMO stores can access my records without any authorization and give someone a Sim with my number on it.

How does T-Mobile allow third parties do this? I mean, they have to know who transferred my number.  If I file a police report who do I say did what?

  • Yea, I’ll try to do an online report. I guess I’ll call T-Mobile and see what they have to say for it.

You will need a police report if anything gets stolen plus you should find out who the dealer was who hacked your account.

  • Not sure who to call. T-Mobile undid the Sim stuff and apologized. I learned that it came from a dealer somewhere who bypassed all my security settings to steal my number.

What would I tell the police?  Honestly I think T-Mobile needs to step up here and let me know what’s going on.
