Enhanced Caller ID
I am unable to enable enhanced caller information on my galaxy s21. I keep getting the message an error occurred while trying to start Enhanced Caller Information. I have tried the solutions I saw posted, removing the SIM, clearing the data, and reinstalling the app. Nothing worked. Any additional suggestions?
Thanks
After weeks of working with T-Mobile to resolve the issue, their answer is the “feature” has been moved to the Scam Shield app:
Hi Xxxxxxx, Thanks for reaching out to T-Force and sorry to see you've had ongoing issues with Enhanced Caller Information feature. I was having a difficult time finding really any information on our side for that feature- and believe i found out why, which would also appear why it's not working for you.Enhanced Caller Information (ECI) was actually rebranded to Verified Business Calls (VBC) and this rebranding was right around a year ago. With the rebranding to VBC, this feature can be located and managed within the Scam Shield App by following the instruction below.
Open the Scam Shield app. Tap Settings. Tap Verified Business Calls. Click toggle to turn on. If contact permissions are not enabled, click Go to Settings to allow permissions and click Got it. Toggle will be magenta color to indicate VBC is turned on.
Additionally, VBC is pre-enabled on some Android devices. If it is a pre enabled feature, you can mange it via your on-device settings below.
Open the native dialer app. Tap Settings. Tap Verified Business Calls. Click toggle to turn on. ^XxxxxXxxxxxxxx

Same here. Exact same problem with same phone GS21, and same error message.
Samsung has a similar feature built-in to this phone -- maybe it's that feature interfering with this app? I forget what Samsung calls it.
I think I'm just going to leave TMobile Enhanced Caller Protection OFF and use the built-in Samsung version. But you could try disabling the Samsung feature and then rebooting/reinstalling. Might fix this issue?

Thanks for the response. I’ll just leave it as is. Surprising that T Mobile didn’t catch it when they did the enhancement.

Same problem … no support … waste of time.

Same phone, same problem. No response from T-Mobile or Samsung support. Not good.

Just got an S23+. Same problem.

So found this thread searching for answers as T-Mobile support had none and advised they were unaware of any such issues with “Enhanced Caller Information.” I’m assuming we’re talking about the Visual Voicemail feature and not the Scam Shield version (verified business calls). If that’s the case add my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 and a Galaxy S23+ to the list of phones where attempting to enable to feature results in a “An error occurred...” error message. Does T-Mobile in fact monitor these forums? Whether they do or not I will follow up my case opened by phone with an email to support and direct them to this post. Maybe something will come of it.

Personally, I have never enabled the Scam Shield but Visual Voicemail works fine for me on my s23 Ultra.

Can confirm same problem on my S22 Ultra. In fact, this problem has been prevalent for months. Didn't work on my S20 Ultra either. Out of curiosity, are the people who are having problems using unlocked phones or T-Mobile locked phones?
My phone is unlocked. Bought from Samsung website directly. CSC is XAA/XAA/XAA/TMB. This is synonymous with U1 (unlocked) firmware. Maybe it only works on U firmware (firmware with carrier features baked in), phones bought straight from T-Mobile? Only U1 firmware has Smart Calling and Device Security available on it. T-Mobile removes these features on their firmware so that they can offer their own services at cost. I bet that's the reason why it won't enable. It probably looks for a setting baked into T-Mobile firmware that proves its authenticity and it's just not available in unlocked firmware regardless if you use a T-Mobile sim.
XAA = USA
TMB = T-Mobile
Would also appreciate if somebody with this feature working on their Samsung Galaxy phone could comment indicating so.
Note: To check the type of firmware you have, go to Settings > About Phone > Model Number > SM-XXXU or SM-XXXU1. That U or U1 designation isn't changed even after carrier unlocking your phone. If you bought your device direct from a US carrier, guaranteed it has a U designation. Buying direct from Samsung comes with U1 unlocked firmware. The only way to change your firmware is to flash it. Flashing to official U or U1 firmware doesn't require root but it will wipe your data and reset your phone completely. See XDA for more support on how to do this. Especially if you want Smart Calling available only through unlocked firmware.
Note: Recommend setting up your device without Sim Card inserted the first time you turn it on. After initial set up, you can then turn device off, insert sim card, turn back on. Through this method, you'll avoid pre-installation of all the bloatware that comes with carrier CSC's. This method is only relevant to U1. U firmware has the bloatware baked in.

I have one s23 Ultra U1 and one s23 Ultra U TMB. No issues with either one with our T-Mobile SIM's.
U1: TMB/TMB/XAA/XAA
U: TMB/TMB, TMB/XAU/TMB
