Calling and messaging

 
Block Calls
 

Block calls

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Tap Menu > Settings > Blocked numbers > ADD A NUMBER.
  4. Enter the number to block and tap BLOCK.

 

Unblock calls

  1. Tap Contacts.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings > Blocked numbers.
  3. Locate the blocked number.
  4. Tap X > UNBLOCK.

 

 
Call Forwarding
 

Call forwarding unconditional

Call Forwarding Unconditional (CFU) immediately forwards all calls to another phone number without allowing the device to ring.

 

  1. From any home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings > Calls.
  3. Tap Call forwarding > Always forward.
  4. Enter the phone number to forward your calls to. The number for voicemail forwarding is +18056377249.
  5. Tap TURN ON.

 

Call forwarding conditional

Call Forwarding Conditional (CFC) forwards incoming calls to another phone number if you do not or cannot answer them (no reply, busy, unavailable).

 

  1. From any home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings > Calls > Call forwarding.
  3. Tap one of the following:
    • When busy
    • When unanswered
    • When unreachable
  4. Enter phone number to forward calls to.
  5. Tap TURN ON.

 

Cancel call forwarding

  1. From any home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings > Calls > Call forwarding.
  3. Tap one of the following:
    • Always forward
    • When busy
    • When unanswered
    • When unreachable
  4. Tap Disable.
 
Caller ID
 
  1. From any home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings > Calls.
  3. Tap Additional settings > Caller ID.
  4. Tap one of the following:
    • Network default
    • Hide number
    • Show number
 
Manage Messages
 

Block messages or spam

To block messages on this device, you must block both calls and messages by blocking the number.

 

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray,
  2. Tap Contacts > Menu > Settings.
  3. Tap Blocked numbers > ADD A NUMBER.
  4. Enter the number to block, then tap BLOCK.

 

Unblock messages

To unblock messages on this device, you must unblock both calls and messages by unblocking the number.

 

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray,
  2. Tap Contacts > Menu > Settings.> Blocked numbers.
  3. Locate the blocked number, then tap X > UNBLOCK.

 

Delete picture messages (MMS)

  1. From any home screen, tap the Messaging icon.
  2. Tap and hold the message you want to delete.
  3. Tap the trashcan > DELETE.

 

Delete text messages (SMS)

  1. From any home screen, tap the Messaging icon.
  2. Tap and hold the message you want to delete.
  3. Tap the trashcan, then tap DELETE

 

Save pictures received in a message (MMS)

  1. From any home screen, tap the Messaging icon.
  2. Tap the message that contains the picture.
  3. Tap the picture you want to save.
  4. Tap the Save icon in the upper-right corner.
  5. A 'Photo has been saved' message briefly displays to confirm.
  6. To retrieve the saved picture, go to Apps > Gallery.

 

SMS service center number

  1. From any home screen, tap the Messaging icon.
  2. Tap Menu > Settings.
  3. Tap the ADVANCED tab, then view the SMS service center number.
 
T-Mobile Video Calling
 

Place a call

  1. Navigate to the contact you want to video call.
  2. If they are available, a green Camera icon will be next to their number. Tap the icon to begin.

 

Switch to video call

  1. From your dialer, place an audio call to a contact by pressing the phone icon.
  2. In the dialer, tap the VIDEO CALL option at the top of the screen to switch to a video call.
  3. Once the video call has connected, choose from these options:
    • Switch camera
    • Mute
    • Show me
    • Hide me
    • Decline
    • End call
  4. If you switch to an audio call, you cannot switch back to a video call. You must hang up and redial.

 

Connections and Network

 
Bluetoooth
 

Pair

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Connected devices.
  3. Tap the Bluetooth switch to turn on.
  4. Tap Bluetooth > Pair new device.
  5. The phone scans for available devices.
  6. Tap the desired Bluetooth device and follow the pairing instructions.
  7. If prompted, enter the passcode. This code can be found in the manual of the selected Bluetooth device (usually 0000 or 1234).
  8. If prompted, when finished, tap PAIR. Some devices, such as headsets, may pair without this prompt.

 

Turn on / off

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Connected devices.
  3. Tap the Bluetooth switch to turn on or off.
 
Smartphone Mobile Hotspot
 

Set up

  1. Verify Wi-Fi and Smartphone Mobile Hotspot are turned off.
  2. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Network & Internet > HotSpot & tethering > Wi-Fi HotSpot.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi HotSpot slider to turn on.
  5. When the 'Mobile HotSpot' screen appears, tap OK.
  6. Once the hotspot is on, the following settings are available:
    • Hotspot name
    • Hide my device
    • Security
    • Hotspot password
    • AP Band
    • Client (DHCP) start address
    • Manage devices
    • Timeout settings

 

Turn on / off

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Network & Internet > HotSpot & tethering > Wi-Fi HotSpot.
  3. Tap the Wi-Fi HotSpot slider to turn on or off.
 
Tethering
 

Computer drivers

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Network & Internet > HotSpot & tethering.
  4. Tap the USB tethering switch to turn on.
  5. When the 'First Time User' window appears, tap OK.
  6. If your PC uses Windows XP, tap Download Windows XP driver, follow the on-screen prompts.
  7. Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Linux systems will automatically download required drivers.
  8. For the latest information on operating systems and tethering, visit www.android.com/tether.

 

USB tethering

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Network & Internet > HotSpot & tethering.
  4. Tap the USB tethering switch to turn on.
  5. The phone verifies your account and connects to USB tethering.

Insert/remove SIM

This device supports a Nano size SIM card.

 

  1. Use SIM card tool to open SIM card / SD card tray.
  2. Insert or remove SIM card.
  3. Replace tray as shown.

 

 

 

Delete SIM messages

  1. From any home screen, Messaging > Menu > Settings.
  2. Tap Advanced settings.
  3. On the 'ADVANCED' tab, tap SIM card messages.
  4. Touch and hold the desired message(s).
  5. Tap the Trashcan, then tap Ok.

 

Notifications and ringtones

 
Emergency alerts
 
  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Messages > Menu > Settings > Emergency alert settings.
  3. Tap Emergency alerts, then tap to enable or disable the following:
    • Imminent extreme alert
    • Imminent severe alert
    • AMBER alerts
 
Incoming email
 
  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Email > Menu > Settings > Manage accounts.
  3. Tap your email address until it advances to the next screen,
  4. Scroll to NOTIFICATION SETTINGS.
  5. Tap Email notifications to select or clear the check box and turn on/off email notifications.
  6. Tap Notification sound to select or change the notification sound.
  7. Tap Vibrate to select or clear the check box and turn on or turn off vibrate notification.
 
Ringtones
 

Ringtone for all calls

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone.
  3. Tap desired ringtone, then tap OK.

 

Ringtone for calls from one contact

You cannot assign a ringtone to contacts stored on the SIM card or phone (device memory).

 

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Contacts.
  3. Choose the desired contact.
  4. Tap Menu > Set ringtone.
  5. Tap desired ringtone, then tap OK.

 

Security

 
Anti-Theft
 

Turn off Anti-theft

To turn off anti-theft protection, follow these steps:

 

  1. Sign out of any Gmail accounts assigned to the device.
  2. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Google.
  4. Tap the Google account assigned to the device.
  5. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT > REMOVE ACCOUNT.
 
Mobile Device Unlock
 

SIM unlock phone

  1. Determine if devices are eligible to be unlocked: Mobile Wireless Device Unlocking.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Network Unlock.
  4. Choose the desired device unlock type:
    • Permanent Unlock
    • Temporary Unlock - requires a mobile data connection
  5. Wait while the device requests and completes the unlock.
 
PUK Code Unlock
 

Identifying PUK code error messages

Confirm customers are receiving one of the following or similar error messages on their devices.

  • "PIN code blocked. Enter PUK code."
  • "Enter PUK code"
  • "SIM card locked. Emergency calls only. Please contact Customer Care."

 

Entering PUK codes

  1. Contact Customer Care to request your PUK code.
  2. Tap the Phone icon to open the dialer. If your phone is not PUK locked, touch Emergency Call on the screen where you enter the PIN code.
  3. Enter **05*[PUK]*[New PIN]*[New PIN]#. If this does not work, enter only the PUK code, then the new PIN if prompted.
  4. When the phone displays 'Unblocking PIN: Registration was successful,' tap OK.
 
SIM PIN
 

Change SIM PIN

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Security & location > SIM card lock.
  3. If necessary, tap the Lock SIM card checkbox to enable, enter your current SIM PIN, then tap OK.
  4. Tap Change SIM PIN.
  5. Enter current SIM PIN (default is 1234), then tap OK.
  6. Enter new SIM PIN, then tap OK
  7. Re-enter new SIM PIN, then tap OK

 

Turn on / off SIM PIN

The SIM PIN code can protect your SIM from being used in other devices. When you turn on the SIM PIN lock, the device prompts you to enter the code after turning it on.

 

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Security & location > SIM card lock.
  3. If necessary, tap the Lock SIM card checkbox to enable, enter your current SIM PIN, then tap OK.

  1. Remove the SIM/SD card tray from the device.
  2. This device comes with a Universal LDI. View the images to read the label.

 

 
Voice Commands
 

 

Enable Voice Commands (OK Google)

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Google.
  3. Say "Ok Google."
  4. Speak your command.

 

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Google.
  3. Say "Ok Google."
  4. Say "Open (app name)."

 

Voice dial a contact

  1. From any home screen, swipe up to display the apps tray.
  2. Tap Google.
  3. Say "Ok Google."
  4. Say "Call (contact name).

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

  1. From any home screen, tap Messages.
  2. Tap the Compose icon.
  3. Choose one of the following options for entering the message recipient:
    • Tap the Contacts icon to select one of your Contacts. To the left of the desired contact, tap the checkbox, then tap Done.
    • Tap the Enter recipient field and enter the recipient's phone number.
  4. Tap the Enter message field.
  5. Tap the Microphone key.
  6. Speak the desired text. You will be automatically directed back to the keyboard when you stop speaking.
  7. When finished, tap the Send icon.
 
Master reset
 

 

Reset device to factory settings with anti-theft

  1. From any home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). Optional: Check Erase SD card.
  3. Tap RESET PHONE.
  4. Enter the screen lock code.
  5. Tap ERASE EVERYTHING. All data and settings will be deleted, and the device will automatically reset and reboot.

 

Master reset with hardware keys

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Power off your device.
  3. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume down button.
  4. When the phone turns on, release the Power button but continue to hold the Volume down button until you see the Recovery screen.
  5. Use the Volume Keys to scroll to RECOVERY MODE, then press the Power button.
  6. When you see the Android with the exclamation point, hold the Power button and press Volume up. Then release both buttons.
  7. Use the Volume Keys to scroll to Wipe data/factory reset, then press the Power button.
  8. Use the Volume Keys to scroll to Yes, then press the Power button.
  9. Use the Volume Keys to scroll to Userdata + personalized content, then press the Power button
  10. Wait until the device finishes formatting and brings you back to the menu.
  11. Use the Volume Keys to scroll to Reboot system now, then press the Power button.

  • Data connection
  • File size: 122.07

 

Automatically over the air (OTA) on your device

  1. Swipe up on an empty spot from the home screen to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Software update > Download updates manually.
  3. Wait for the device to check for updates.
  4. Tap OK > Start.
  5. Tap OK when the restart message appears.

 

Issues from updates

Follow these steps if you experience issues with your device after updating its software:

 

  1. Wipe your cache partition to make sure all system files on your device are put back in order.
  2. Perform a master reset if wiping the cache partition does not work.
