Determine update requirements

Your device must meet these requirements to update to the most current software version:

  • 50% or higher battery charge
  • Data connection

 

Update software versions

Update automatically over the air (OTA)

  1. From any home screen, tap Apps > Settings.
  2. Tap About phone > System Updates > Check for updates.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts.

 

Issues after updating

If you experience issues after updating to the latest software version, follow these steps:

  1. Wipe your cache partition to make sure that all system files on your device are put back in order.
    1. Turn off the device.
    2. Press and hold the Volume up button, then press and hold the Power button at the same time until the phone turns on.
    3. When the device powers on, release the Power button but continue to hold the Volume up button until the Recovery screen appears.
    4. Use the volume buttons to scroll to 'Wipe cache partition', then press the Power button to select it.
    5. Scroll down to "Yes", then press the Power button to select it.
    6. Use the Power button to select Reboot system now.
  2. If wiping the cache partition does not work, you may need to perform a master reset.
    1. Back up data on the internal memory.
    2. From any Home screen, tap the All apps icon.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Scroll to 'Personal', then tap Backup & reset.
    5. Tap Factory data reset.
    6. If your phone is password protected, you'll be prompted to enter your Pattern, PIN, or Password.
    7. Tap RESET PHONE.
