Determine update requirements

Your device must meet the following requirements to update your software to the most current version:

 

  • 50% or higher battery life
  • Data connection
  • Size of update 14.97 MB

 

Update software version

 

Update automatically over the air (OTA) for Baseband G920TUVS6FRC1

  1. It is recommended that you connect to Wi-Fi to complete the update.
  2. From the Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Software updates.
  5. Tap Download updates automatically.
  6. Tap Ok.
  7. Tap Start.
  8. Tap OK when the restart message appears.

 

Update from a computer

  1. Download and install Samsung Smart Switch compatible with computer from http://www.samsung.com/us/support/smart-switch-support/#!/.
  2. Connect Samsung USB cable to a compatible USB port on computer.
  3. Connect other end of the Samsung USB cable to the device.
  4. Allow computer to install any required drivers.
  5. Open Smart Switch on computer and allow it to connect.
  6. If a software update is available, Smart Switch automatically prompts for the update. Click Update to begin.
  7. Click OK to proceed. Device may turn off and on during the update and returns to the Home screen when done.
  8. Do not attempt the following during the update:
    • Using the device
    • Pressing keys
    • Removing the battery
    • Turning off the device.
    • Disconnecting the USB cable

 

Issues after updating

If you experience issues after updating to the latest software version, follow these steps:

 

  1. Wipe your cache partition to make sure that all system files on your device are put back in order.
    1. Turn off the device.
    2. Press and hold the Volume upHome, and Power keys together.
    3. When the Samsung Galaxy S 6 logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
    4. When the Android logo displays, release the Volume up and Home keys. 'Installing system update' appears for 30 - 60 seconds, followed by the Android system recovery menu.
    5. Press the Volume down key until 'wipe cache partition' is highlighted.
    6. Press the Power key to select.
    7. Press the Volume down key until 'yes' is highlighted.
    8. Press the Power key to select.
    9. When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
    10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
  2. If wiping the cache partition does not work, you may need to perform a master reset.
    1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
    2. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Cloud and accounts.
    5. Tap Backup and reset.
    6. If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
    7. If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
    8. Tap the back key twice to return to the Settings menu, then tap General Management.
    9. Tap Reset.
    10. Tap Factory data reset.
    11. Tap Reset device.
    12. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your PIN or password.
    13. Tap Continue.
    14. Tap Delete all.
