Learn how to use dual SIM with an eSIM on the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G.

 

Activate your eSIM

Transfer an existing line

  1. Make sure you're connected to the internet through Wi-Fi.
  2. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  3. Tap Settings > Connections SIM card manager.
  4. Choose Add mobile plan > Bring plan from old device > T-Mobile > Continue.
  5. Log into your T-Mobile account and follow the on-screen steps choose which line to transfer. 
  6. Tap Confirm to finish adding the plan.

Switch your physical SIM to an eSIM

  1. Make sure you're connected to the internet through Wi-Fi.
  2. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  3. Tap Settings > Connections SIM card manager.
  4. Tap your SIM card at the top (usually it says SIM 1), then choose Convert to eSIM.
  5. Log into your T-Mobile account and follow the on-screen steps to choose which line to use.
  6. Review the notification about the temporary disconnect, then tap Continue.
  7. Tap Confirm to finish switching from your physical SIM to eSIM.
  8. Once the eSIM is activated, your physical SIM card will be turned off. You can remove it from the device.

Use a QR code

If a T-Mobile Expert is assisting with your setup or you've already changed your SIM on My T-Mobile, you'll need to scan a QR code.

  1. Make sure you're connected to the internet through Wi-Fi.
  2. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  3. Tap Settings > Connections SIM card manager.
  4. Choose Add mobile plan > Scan carrier QR code.
  5. Use your camera to scan the T-Mobile eSIM QR code
    • If you're having problems, you can tap to Enter code instead.
    • Tap the Photos icon at the bottom right to select a screenshot of the QR code.

 

Label your plans / lines

After your second plan is activated, you can label your plans / lines for easy identification.

  1. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections SIM card manager.
  3. Tap the following to change them:
    • Icon
    • Name

 

Switch between or erase eSIMs

You can store more than one eSIM in your device, but you can use only one at a time.

Switch between eSIM

  1. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections SIM card manager.
  3. Tap the switch next to the desired eSIM to turn it on or off.

Erase eSIM

These steps do not cancel your service with T-Mobile. You must contact us to do that.

  1. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections > SIM card manager.
  3. Tap on the desired eSIM.
  4. Choose Remove. If prompted, enter your password.
  5. Tap Remove.

 

View how much signal each line has

  • If you're using both a physical SIM and eSIM, the signal bars on the left are for the physical SIM and the bars on the right are for the eSIM.
  • The 5G/LTE/4G/3G indicator appears to the left of the signal bars that you're using for data.
  • If you swipe down twice on the status bar, you can get additional information on signal and which line is primary.

 

Choose your preferred SIM

  1. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections SIM card manager.
  3. Tap Primary SIM and choose which SIM to use by default.

 

Choose which number to call with

In the dialer:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap on Keypad.
  2. Enter the number you wish to dial.
  3. At the bottom, tap the SIM/eSIM name to switch between available options.

For a specific contact:

  1. Swipe up from the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Open the Contacts app and tap on the desired contact.
  3. Underneath the phone number, tap the SIM/eSIM to change it. You can choose a specific SIM/eSIM or use the default one.

 

Choose which number to message with

You can't change the SIM/eSIM for an existing message thread. If you open a message thread, you can see the SIM/eSIM icon in use at the top, by the name or number.

For a new message:

  1. Open the Messages app and compose a new message.
  2. Add the contact or contacts to the message.
  3. At the bottom right, tap the SIM/eSIM name to switch between available options. You can't change this once you've sent the message.

For a specific contact:

  1. Swipe up from the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Open the Contacts app and tap on the desired contact.
  3. Underneath the phone number, tap the SIM/eSIM to change it. You can choose a specific SIM/eSIM or use the default one.

 

Choose which number to use for data

  1. Swipe up on the Home screen to view your apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections > Mobile networks.
  3. Tap the Network mode for the SIM/eSIM you want to use for data, then choose 5G/LTE/3G/2G.
    • Other SIMs/eSIMs will automatically switch to LTE/3G/2G.
    • Only the line set to connect to 5G will be used for data.
