Learn how to connect to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and data networks (2G, 4G, LTE) on the Motorola Moto X.

Bluetooth

Pair Bluetooth device

To turn on Bluetooth and pair with a headset or other device, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, slide Bluetooth to On.
  4. Tap the word Bluetooth to connect.
  5. Once the device you are attempting to pair to appears in the list, tap the name to pair to it.
  6. Type in the Pin (usually 1234 or 0000, refer to the owners manual to confirm).
  7. Tap on the device name to confirm connection.

 

Turn on / off Bluetooth

To turn on or turn off Bluetooth, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, slide Bluetooth to On.

 

Emergency Alerts

Turn on / off Emergency Alerts

To turn on or turn off Emergency Alert messages that push to the device, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Hangouts.
  3. Tap the Menu icon.
  4. Tap Emergency Alerts.
  5. Check the alerts you want to receive.
    Note: Presidential alerts cannot be disabled.

 

GPS

Turn on / off GPS

To turn on or turn off GPS, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Personal, tap Location.
  4. Slide Location to On/Off

 

Network

APN & data settings

To set the Access Point Name (APN) and turn on data settings, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All apps key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap More.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Access Point Names.
  6. If available, tap the T-Mobile US APN (the bullet point fills with green). If not available, tap the Menu key, and then tap New APN.
    Note: To reset your APN settings, tap the Menu key and then tap Reset to default.
  7. Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN:
    • Name: T-Mobile US LTE
    • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
    • Proxy: <Not set>
    • Port: <Not set>
    • Username: <Not set>
    • Password: <Not set>
    • Server: <Not set>
    • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    • MMS proxy: <Not set>
    • MMS port: <Not set>
    • MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    • MCC: 310
    • MNC: 260
    • Authentication type: <Not set>
    • APN type: <Not set> OR Internet+MMS
    • APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
    • APN roaming protocol: IPv4
    • Enable/disable APN: <greyed out unless there are multiple APN's>
    • Bearer: Unspecified
  8. Tap the Menu key.
  9. Tap Save.
  10. Tap the desired APN profile you want to use. The bullet point fills with green next to the APN profile.

 

Manual network selection

To manually select the wireless network the device connects to, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS," tap More... to display more options.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Network operators.
  6. Tap Search networks.
  7. Tap the desired network.

The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

 

Switch 2G / 4G / LTE

To change the band between 2G, 4G, and LTE, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS," tap More... to display more options.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Preferred Network Selection.
  6. Choose from the following:
    • LTE
    • 3G
    • 2G

 

Turn on / off Airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off wireless connections. This allows you to use apps and menus, but not make calls or use the internet.

To turn on or turn off airplane mode, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, slide Airplane Mode to On.

 

Turn on / off data roaming

To turn on or turn off data roaming, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS," tap More... to display more options.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Data roaming to turn on/off:
    • Enable Data roaming to receive data when roaming domestically.
    • Disable Data roaming when roaming internationally to avoid incurring roaming charges

 

NFC

Read NFC tag

To read the NFC tag information from another NFC device or a printed tag, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap More.
  4. Slide NFC to On.
  5. Tap the back of the phone next to the Tag.

 

Turn on / off NFC

To turn on or turn off NFC, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap More.
  4. Slide NFC to On/Off.

 

System Manager (Carrier IQ)

Opt in / out of System Manager

System Manager makes it easier for T-Mobile to help with problems that happen when using your device. To opt in or opt out of System Manager, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap the T-Mobile My Account app.
  3. Tap the Menu icon.
  4. Tap Options.
  5. Tap System Manager.
  6. Under Diagnostics, slide to ON or OFF to send diagnostics to T-Mobile.

 

Wi-Fi

Delete Wi-Fi network profile

To delete a saved Wi-Fi network profile, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, tap on the words Wi-Fi to open the Wi-Fi settings menu.
  4. Touch and hold on the network you want to delete and tap Forget Network.

 

Scan & connect to Wi-Fi network

To scan for and connect to available Wi-Fi networks, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, slide Wi-Fi to On.
  4. Touch the words Wi-Fi to open the configuration screen.
  5. The available networks appear, tap the network you wish to connect to.
  6. Enter any required password and tap Connect.

 

Turn on / off Wi-Fi

To turn on or turn off Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the App tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & Networks, slide Wi-Fi to On.
