Learn how to customize text entry and default keyboard settings on the HTC U11 life.




Change default keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'Phone' and tap Language & keyboard.
  4. Tap Virtual keyboard.
  5. Tap to select one of the available keyboards.


Enter symbols & numbers

  1. Select any text entry field.
  2. Tap the 12# key to switch to numbers and symbols; tap the 1/2 key to switch between symbol keypads.
  3. Tap the ABC key to switch back to text entry.


Text entry mode


Predictive text mode

When tapping letters to enter text in a text input field, the phone predicts the word. If the predicted word is the word you want, tap the space key and begin the next word or tap a selection to insert. Otherwise, continue entering the word you want or tap one of the other predictions.


Speech-to-text mode

  1. Tap and hold the Space key to activate the microphone.
  2. When the 'Speak now' window pops up, say the words and numbers you want.
  3. Tap the X to exit the speech-to-text mode.


Traditional mode

  1. Separately tap each letter of a word.
  2. Tap the Space key between words.


Turn on / off haptic (vibration) feedback

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'Phone' and tap Sound & notification.
  4. Tap the Vibrate on touch check box to turn it on or off.
