- ### Why is there a limited list of phones that qualify for me to bring to the T-Mobile network and have you cover the remaining balance at my previous carrier?
Cell phones have unique software and in some cases hardware for each wireless carrier’s network is different and not compatible with one another. We’ve already done the work to check that all phones listed as eligible work great when they’re brought to T-Mobile. We will continue to work with phone manufacturers to enable more devices to easily move between carrier networks and still deliver the awesome experience T-Mobile is known for.
- ### How do I get Keep and Switch?
To qualify for T-Mobile to reimburse your remaining device payment balance, up to $800, you must:
- Have a device financing agreement on an eligible device with AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum Claro, Liberty (Puerto Rico), Xfinity or UScellular and have had the agreement for at least 90 days on that network.
- Activate a new voice line on a qualified rate plan. All plans currently sold by T-Mobile are eligible with some exclusions. Talk to our customer support team to see which plan is best for you.

Bringing (porting) your number to T-Mobile prior to unlocking your phone will result in loss of access to service on the T-Mobile network due to your current incompatible locked phone.

- ### Do I need to take any extra steps to unlock my Verizon phone?
No, Verizon phones purchased from a Verizon authorized retailer are unlocked automatically based on when the device was purchased.
- Devices purchased __on or after January 27, 2026__ are automatically unlocked once the full price of the device is paid, either when purchased at full retail price at the time of sale or when the device financing agreement balance is paid in full.

- ### How long did I need to have my previous device on a monthly payment plan with my previous carrier to qualify for Keep and Switch?
You need to have your previous device on a device payment plan for at least 90 days with AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, Claro, Liberty (Puerto Rico), Xfinity or UScellular be eligible for reimbursement via Keep and Switch.
- ### Do I need to take any extra steps to unlock my UScellular phone?
Depending on your phone’s purchase type from a UScellular authorized agent or reseller your locking period will vary. You can request a device unlock from UScellular Customer Service before 120 days if you pay your device off in full and your account is in good standing.
- ### When will I receive my reimbursement?
After successful submission and once your promotion eligibility requirements have been verified (allow 2 weeks after rebate submission), you will receive an SMS confirming you have been approved and should expect your reimbursement within 1 – 3 days via virtual prepaid card from the receipt of your approval SMS.
- ### Do I need to take any extra steps to unlock my AT&T phone?

We will cover up to $800 and you will be responsible for any remaining portion of your device payment plan balance that exceeds $800. Depending on your carrier, you may need to pay off your device payment plan prior to being able to unlock your phone.
- ### Do I need to take any extra steps to unlock my Claro phone?
Yes! Your Claro phone is currently locked, and you cannot unlock the phone until you pay your phone off. Prior to bringing your number over to T-Mobile, you will need to:
1. Download a PDF of your most recent bill that shows your device financing details.
- The PDF must include the following to be eligible for reimbursement:

- ### You said you would pay for up to $800 in device costs, but I had to pay off my device to switch. What’s up with that?
To use a device on the T-Mobile 5G network, the device must be unlocked from its previous carrier’s network. At this time, some carriers require the device payment plan balance to be paid in full before they will unlock the device and allow it to be used on our network. We will still reimburse you, up to $800, when you make the switch and satisfy all eligibility requirements, even if your current carrier requires you to pay off your device prior to unlock.
- ### Do I need to take any extra steps to unlock my Liberty (Puerto Rico) phone?
Yes! Your Liberty (Puerto Rico) phone is currently locked, and you cannot unlock the phone until you pay your phone off. Prior to bringing your number over to T-Mobile, you will need to:

- ### Do I need to take any extra steps to unlock my XFINITY phone?
Yes! Your XFINITY phone is currently locked, and you cannot unlock the phone until you pay your phone off. Prior to bringing your number over to T-Mobile, you will need to:
