Done (0 Links) Optimized video calls is a network feature designed to help keep your video calls smoother and more reliable, especially when the network is busy. It gives supported real-time video calling traffic enhanced treatment while your call is active. ## On this page: - [What is Optimized video calls](https://www.t-mobile.com#steps1) - [How it works](https://www.t-mobile.com#steps2) - [Supported apps and devices](https://www.t-mobile.com#steps3) - [Performance and network experience](https://www.t-mobile.com#steps4) - [Troubleshooting](https://www.t-mobile.com#steps5) ## [](https://www.t-mobile.com)What is Optimized video calls Video calls need a strong, steady connection. When a lot of people are using the network at the same time, video calls can freeze, stutter, or drop in quality. Optimized video calls helps your video calls perform at their best under existing network conditions. ## [](https://www.t-mobile.com)How it works There is nothing you need to turn on. Your phone automatically recognizes when you are on a video call and requests optimized network treatment for you. There is no setting to find and nothing extra to download. Performance can vary based on your coverage, device, software, the app you are using and overall network conditions. For it to work, make sure you have: - A compatible device and software version (see Supported apps and devices below) - One of the supported video calling apps (see Supported apps and devices below) - A T-Mobile 5G Standalone connection, the newest version of our 5G network - An eligible plan or add-on active on the line Optimized video calls only optimizes your video call traffic and only while the call is active. The extra treatment ends as soon as the call ends. ## [](https://www.t-mobile.com)Supported apps and devices Optimized video calls currently works with: - __iPhone__: Discord, FaceTime, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Signal, Webex, WhatsApp, Zoom - __Android__: Google Meet Compatible devices: - __iPhone__: iPhone 14 or newer with iOS 18.2 or later - __Android__: Pixel 7 or newer with Android 17 or later Meeting the device and software requirements above does not guarantee compatibility on its own. App support, plan eligibility, and T-Mobile 5G Standalone coverage are also required. Availability may vary by device and app. We are continuing to add support over time. Optimized video calls works in the US in areas with T-Mobile Standalone 5G coverage only and does not apply when you are traveling internationally. ## [](https://www.t-mobile.com)Performance and network experience If your phone shows full signal bars, that reflects how well your phone connects to the nearest cell tower. It does not guarantee video call quality by itself. Optimized video calls works alongside your signal to help optimize how your video call performs on our network, so your video connection stays clear. It does not need to be active on both phones to make a difference. If both people have it, the call can get the full benefit on both ends. It helps video calls perform their best on our network, but it cannot guarantee a perfect call every time. Call quality also depends on factors outside of network optimization, such as: - Your signal strength: calls can struggle in places with weak coverage, such as basements, elevators or remote areas. - The other person's connection: even if your connection is strong, the people on your call might have a weak signal or slow Wi-Fi. - Wi-Fi: when you are connected to Wi-Fi, your call runs over that connection instead of our network, so the benefit does not apply. If a line has both T-Priority and Optimized video calls, you will not see extra performance from Optimized video calls, because T-Priority already optimizes your network connection. ## [](https://www.t-mobile.com)Troubleshooting If you are not seeing better video call quality, or T-Mobile Optimized does not appear in the quick controls panel on your device, try these checks: - Confirm Optimized video calls is included with your plan or active as an add-on on the line. - Check that your phone's software is up to date. - Make sure you are using one of the supported video calling apps on a compatible device and that the app itself is up to date. - Turn off Wi-Fi so your call runs on our network. - Close and reopen the video calling app, then try the call again. If you have checked these and you are still having issues, contact [T-Mobile Support](https://www.t-mobile.com/contact-us) so we can help. High-speed data for video conference usage only.
