Learn how to master reset the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 using the menu or hardware keys.

Master reset from settings menu

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. From any Home screen, tap  Apps .
  3. Tap  Settings .
  4. Tap  Backup and reset .
  5. Tap to clear the  Automatic restore  check box, if necessary.
    Note : You must disable ‘Automatic restore’ before you disable ‘Back up my data.’
  6. Tap to clear the  Back up my data check box, if necessary.
  7. Tap  OK , if necessary.
  8. Tap  Factory data reset .
  9. Tap  Reset device .
  10. Tap  Erase everything .

Master reset with hardware keys

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Press and hold the  Power/Lock key, tap  Power off , and then tap  OK to turn off the tablet.
  3. Press and hold the  Power/Lock key and  Up Volume key (closest to the  Power/Lock key) at the same time.
  4. Release the keys when the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 logo appears.
  5. When the menu appears, press the  Down Volume key to scroll to  wipe data / factory reset .
  6. Press the  Power key to select.
  7. Press the  Down Volume key to scroll to Yes – delete all user data .
  8. Press the  Power key to select.
  9. Press the  Power key to select  reboot system now .

Soft reset with hardware keys

A soft reset is a simulated battery removal. This is used to power a device off when the screen is frozen or unresponsive and the device it has an internal battery that cannot be removed. It does not cause loss of personal data on the device.

Press and hold the Power key for up to 45 seconds. Wait as the device restarts.
