Learn how to use eSIM on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. This device will default to using eSIM, but a physical SIM card can still be used.

Find Device EID
Use these steps to find your device's EID number.
- Verify your device is on the latest software version.
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > About > phone.
- Tap Status information.
- Scroll down to EID.
Download eSIM
For setting up an eSIM for the first time on a new line/add-a-line device, follow these steps
Use these steps if T-Mobile or customer has already completed a SIM card change to eSIM using device EID.
- Power on the new device.
- At the Welcome! screen, select your language, then tap Start to begin setting up your phone.
- Review the Terms and conditions, tap I agree to the Terms and Conditions, including Arbitration Agreement and I agree to the Privacy Policy OR Agree to all (optional), then tap Agree.
- At the 'Set up using another device' screen tap Galaxy or Android device, iPhone or iPad, or tap Skip.
- Choose your Wi-Fi network. You may be prompted to enter your password. Tap Connect.
- Your device will automatically scan for eSIM to connect to the network.
- On the 'Add T-Mobile Plan to your phone?' screen, select Add.
- The device will download and enable eSIM.
- The device will restart.
- Complete the remainder out-of-box setup.
For upgrades and bringing over the eSIM from an existing/older device, follow these steps
Use these steps to move an active line from a previous device to an eSIM on your current device. This is commonly used as a self-service option for device upgrades.
- Power on the new device.
- At the Welcome! screen, select your language, then tap Start to begin setting up your phone.
- Review the Terms and conditions, tap I agree to the Terms and Conditions, including Arbitration Agreement and I agree to the Privacy Policy OR Agree to all (optional), then tap Agree.
- At the 'Set up using another device' screen tap Galaxy or Android device, iPhone or iPad, or tap Skip.
- Choose your Wi-Fi network. You may be prompted to enter your password. Tap Connect.
- Select Bring plan from old device T-Mobile > Continue.
- Review the Privacy Policy and tap Continue.
- Log into your T-Mobile account.
- Request one-time passcode to be sent.
- Enter one-time passcode for verification, and follow the additional on-screen prompts.
- On the 'Add T-Mobile Plan to your phone?' screen, select Add.
- The device will download and enable the eSIM.
- The device will restart.
- Complete the remainder out-of-box setup.
For eSIM activation after initial setup using SIM manager
Use these steps if you need to set up your eSIM from the settings menu.
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.
- If necessary, tap the Wi-Fi switch to turn on.
- Tap the desired Wi-Fi network, then Connect.
- Scroll to and tap Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.
- Device searches for eSIM mobile plans.
- At the 'Add T-Mobile eSIM' screen, tap Add.
- Confirm the eSIM is enabled with the switch on.
Convert your physical SIM to an eSIM
Use these steps to convert the physical SIM currently in your device to an eSIM.
- Make sure you're connected to the internet through Wi-Fi.
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap your SIM card at the top (by default this is titled SIM 1), then select Convert to eSIM.
- Review the notification about the temporary disconnect, then tap Convert eSIM.
- Log into your T-Mobile account and follow the on-screen steps to choose which line to use.
- At the 'Add T-Mobile eSIM' screen, tap Add.
- Once the eSIM is activated, your physical SIM card will be turned off. You can remove it from the device.
Label your plans/lines
After your second plan is activated, you can label your plans/lines for easy identification.
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap the SIM you want to change to update the following:
- Icon
- Name
Switch between or erase eSIMs
You can store more than one eSIM in your device, but you can use only one at a time.
Switch between eSIM
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap the switch next to the desired eSIM to turn it on or off.
- Confirm your selection and tap OK.
Erase eSIM
These steps do not cancel your service with T-Mobile. You must contact us to do that.
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap on the desired eSIM.
- Choose Remove. If prompted, enter your password.
- Tap Remove.
Using your eSIM and physical SIM together
View how much signal each line has
- If you're using both a physical SIM and eSIM, the signal bars on the left are for the physical SIM and the bars on the right are for the eSIM.
- The 5G/LTE/4G/3G indicator appears to the left of the signal bars that you're using for data.
- If you swipe down twice on the status bar, you can get additional information on the signal and which line is primary.
Access Voicemail
- The T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app only shows voicemails from the Primary SIM.
- To see voicemails from the secondary SIM,change it to the Primary SIMand open the Visual Voicemail app again.
- You can alsocall voicemailfrom the secondary line to check messages
Choose your preferred SIM
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap Primary SIM and choose which SIM to use by default.
Choose which number to call with
In the dialer
- Open the Phone app and tap on Keypad.
- Enter the number you wish to dial.
- At the bottom, tap the SIM/eSIM name to switch between available options.
For a specific contact
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Open the Contacts app and tap on the desired contact.
- Underneath the phone number, tap the SIM/eSIM to change it. You can choose a specific SIM/eSIM or use the default one.
Choose which number to message with
You can't change the SIM/eSIM for an existing message thread. If you open a message thread, you can see the SIM/eSIM icon in use at the top, by the name or number.
For a new message
- Open the Messages app and compose a new message.
- Add the contact or contacts to the message.
- At the bottom right, tap the SIM/eSIM name to switch between available options. You can't change this once you've sent the message.
For a specific contact
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Open the Contacts app and tap on the desired contact.
- Underneath the phone number, tap the SIM/eSIM to change it. You can choose a specific SIM/eSIM or use the default one.
Choose which number to use for data
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view your apps.
- Tap Settings > Connections > Mobile networks.
- Tap the Network mode for the SIM/eSIM you want to use for data, then choose 5G/LTE/3G/2G.
- Other SIMs/eSIMs will automatically switch to LTE/3G/2G.
- Only the line set to connect to 5G will be used for data.
