Live Translation is T-Mobile’s built-in, real-time voice translation service. It provides near-instant, two-way translation on any phone—including basic feature phones—with no apps, downloads, or special devices required. Just speak naturally in your own language on the call—Live Translations takes care of the rest.
#### How does it work?
T-Mobile’s Live Translation automatically detects two different languages and translates them in real time, allowing for a smooth, natural conversation.
- While on a call, dial * 87 * to activate or deactivate Live Translation.
- Only works if you are enrolled in Live Translation.
- Live Translation works automatically at the network level—no apps or downloads needed.
- Delivers a human-like experience (in the user's voice) with fast, fluid responses.
- Supports 80+ languages (& counting) and supports global communications across 200+ countries.
- What you say is what they hear—every word and emotion, with no censorship or editing.
What does Live Translation sound like?
Live Translation is designed to feel as natural as possible. Here's what to expect during a translated call:
- __Processing tone:__ After you finish speaking, you'll hear a soft ambient sound in the background. This lets you know that T-Mobile AI is actively translating what you said.
- __Original voice first:__ You'll briefly hear the other person speaking in their own language as the translation processes. This is normal and is your cue that they're responding.
- __Translation comes in:__ Once the AI has enough context to produce an accurate translation, the translated voice comes through. Live Translation needs to hear a complete thought before translating, so it can capture the meaning right rather than guessing word by word.
- __Seamless audio transition:__ As the translated voice comes in, the original voice fades to the background so you can hear the translation clearly.
What should I expect throughout the Beta?
Here's the quick rundown:
- __Waitlist updates.__ After you sign up, we'll keep you posted while you wait. Once you're in, you'll get a notification with all the details and next steps.
- __Early access, early quirks.__ Hiccups may happen as we keep enhancing the experience. That's part of being first.
- __Your feedback shapes what's next.__ Share what's working and what's not in the Manage tab in the T-Life app, and help us build the future of Live Translation.
- __When the Beta wraps.__ We'll let you know once Live Translation officially launches, and you'll have the option to add it to your line.
