Updating Global Services for an Ever-More Mobile World

(Updated February 21, 2014)

It’s crazy-fun being part of a mobile revolution sweeping the planet – and virtually carrying entire economies along for the ride. When Mobile World Congress 2014 convenes next week in Barcelona, a lot of folks at the center of the global mobile storm are going to have the perfect chance to check out T-Mobile’s revolutionary international services – Simple Global, and Stateside International Talk & Text.

When we launched these ground-breaking international programs, we did two things.

First, we eliminated the fear of using your phone overseas and the dread of coming home to monster bill shock – by getting rid of those insanely inflated international calling, texting and data charges.

Second, (though it didn’t get quite the same fanfare) we’re also offering Stateside International Talk & Text. For just $10 a month, customers get unlimited calls from the U.S. to landlines in more than 70 countries,  unlimited texting to more than 200+ countries, plus no more than 20 cents a minute mobile to mobile calling to any  number in more than 100 countries.

As I mentioned last week, since launching Simple Global, Simple Choice customers immediately began flexing their newfound global freedom. To date, when traveling to those 100+ Simple Global countries worldwide, they’re making three times more calls, texting four times as often, and using over 20 times more data than they were before. That’s beautiful.

We’ve seen it at the Winter Games in Sochi, and I’d venture a guess that we’re going to see our T-Mobile Simple Choice customers in Barcelona making the most of their new freedom, too. I can’t tell you how awesome it is to be part of ushering in a new era of fairness and freedom in wireless. (By the way, have you noticed the response from our competitors? That’s right. They got nothin’.)

Stateside International Talk & Text was a pioneering offer that’s been making a huge difference already in how people here in the States stay connected with family, friends and colleagues in a rapidly shrinking world.

But the recent rumors are true… we’re not stopping there.

Right along with the ever-accelerating advances in mobile technology, our customers are always finding new ways to get the most out of these amazing devices. And we’re committed to keeping pace with those changes and giving customers what they want – whether they’re working and playing abroad or calling internationally from the US.

For example, until now, customers have had to know whether they were dialing a landline or a mobile number when calling from the US. I know this has caused some frustration over some unexpected fees. That’s not good. That’s not Un-carrier.

To fix that, I’m proud to officially announce that we’re expanding Stateside International Talk & Text, so customers can simply dial family, friends and colleagues in over 30 countries – and be completely confident that there will be NO extra charges when using this feature.

On February 23rd, we’re introducing a new $15 Stateside International Talk & Text offer that includes all the great features of the $10 plan, plus adds unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling from the U.S. to more than 30 countries and up to 1,000 mobile-to-mobile minutes to Mexico.

That’s going to mean access to more mobile numbers in more countries than any other major carrier. By adding Stateside International Talk & Text with mobile to qualifying plans, customers in the United States can now reach close to 50% of the worldwide cellular phones outside of the US without hassles, allowing them to easily stay connected to family, friends and colleagues.

I’m incredibly proud of that.

In a world where the number of people using mobile phones is growing by leaps and bounds, and fewer and fewer people are using landlines, it just makes sense to do it this way.

It’s simpler. It’s a whole lot less hassle. And it’s a whole lot more Un-carrier.

$10 Stateside International Talk & Text includes unlimited mobile-to-landline calling in 70+ countries and unlimited texting and discount rates to 200+ countries.
