T-Mobile Wideband LTE Blows by the Competition in New York

December 14, 2014

Un-carrier advances Wideband LTE roll-out, delivering unmatched network speeds in markets all across the U.S. — and promises more to come in 2015

New York, NY − December 15, 2014 − T-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS) today confirmed reported sightings of massive network speeds in recent days, announcing its Wideband LTE is now live throughout the greater New York City metro area. Building on a LTE network that already offers the fastest speeds in the area, the launch of Wideband LTE boosts network speeds up to 50 percent. Already, T-Mobile customers in the metro area have reported download speeds in excess of an unprecedented 100 Mbps. In addition to Manhattan, Wideband LTE now covers T-Mobile customers in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Long Island and Northern NJ. All of Westchester County, including White Plains and Scarsdale as well as Central New Jersey will be added soon.

.

“New Yorkers deserve a network that moves at the blazing speed of this amazing city. Our LTE network was already fastest here. Now, with the launch of Wideband LTE, we’ve widened our lead even further throughout the greater metro area,” said Neville Ray, Chief Technology Officer for T-Mobile. “We are working relentlessly to bring more Wideband LTE to more markets in 2015 for our customers to enjoy.”

To serve up faster peak network speeds, Wideband LTE increases bandwidth and capacity on T-Mobile’s LTE network. That means more lanes for Un-carrier™ LTE customers to speed along in. With T-Mobile Wideband LTE, customers can download a full 90-minute HD movie to their phone or tablet in just three and a half minutes or a whole album in just nine seconds with theoretical peak download speeds of 110 Mbps.

T-Mobile customers in and around New York City have been using an average of 2.6 GB of data per month with average download speeds of 22.2 Mbps − faster than AT&T and Verizon and more than two times faster than Sprint’s network speeds.

The city that never sleeps is just the latest US metro area to get a Wideband LTE speed boost – as the Un-carrier’s network coverage expansions and performance enhancements of America’s fastest nationwide 4G LTE network never stop. As of today, Wideband LTE is available in 27 major markets or in 120 metros (metropolitan statistical areas).
