The Summer Binge List: John Legere

July 12, 2019

Brought to you by T-Mobile’s executive leadership team

Looking for some poolside/bedside/deskside motivation to shake up your perspective this summer? Or just need something entertaining to pass the time? We’ve got you! T-Mobile leaders, including Un-CEO John Legere, are sharing their Summer Binge Lists: the things they are listening to, reading, watching and playing that have helped shape their Un-carrier outlook. Turns out it takes more than business savvy to continue shaking up an industry—sometimes it’s a little dose of inspiration from a classic novel, a solid podcast or even reality TV! Dive in!

The Un-CEO: John Legere

From Galantis to Overwatch, T-Mobile’s fearless leader John Legere kicks off our Summer Binge List package by revealing some of the inspirations that fuel his Un-CEO outlook.

Rocketman

Around T-Mobile, we want everyone to be their true selves—rock your blue/pink/yellow hair and cool tattoos if that’s your jam! Because with diversity comes innovation. There is no better example than Elton John, who was always unapologetically his weird, wonderful self. And the world has loved him for it—for decades! This movie was a great peek into the mind of an iconic genius…and I may have seen it in theater no less than 4 times. ud83dude09

EDM

Not many people know, but I’m a big fan of EDM (electronic dance music). There are hundreds of sub-genres, but dance is usually what I have playing in my headphones. It gets me ready for the day, keeps me motivated on my last mile and in general, it is FUN to listen to. Above & Beyond, Galantis, Steve Aoki, REZZ, Zedd and PNAU are all on my playlist!

26 Marathons: What I Learned About Faith, Identity, Running and Life from My Marathon Career by Meb Keflezighi

Meb is one of the greatest distance runners of all time—and he’s also a good friend of mine! His commitment to making every mile count and encouraging others to do the same is the mark of a true leader. Like he explains in this memoir, each of the 26 marathons he ran in his career taught him a different life lesson—inspiring stuff for anyone competing on the road of life.

The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle

This book came along at a time in my life when I was deciding on what’s next. It taught me to be fully present in the moment and to truly LISTEN—which not only led to me joining T-Mobile (I also figured out that I’m not great at being unemployed or retired!), but it’s the foundation of how I lead this company! It’s simple—shut up and listen and good things will follow.

Overwatch

Gaming as part of a team is a totally different experience than going solo. Listening to your partners and coordinating your strategy is the only way to win at Overwatch—and in life! Oh, and choosing Lucio as your hero. ud83dude09

Live music on Periscope

Whenever I have a spare minute, I tune into young musicians livestreaming on Periscope. It’s a world where everyone’s unafraid to put themselves out there. If I like what I hear, I’ll comment and share it with my followers to help them get more awareness! When you have 6 million-plus followers, it’s an easy action. And who knows, maybe it will lead to someone’s big break!

90 Day Fiancé

Yes—I’ll admit, it’s a guilty pleasure. And I like every spinoff of it (Happily Ever After, Before the 90 Days, What Now, The Other Way). It’s a reality TV series that’s got it all—drama, humor, romance (sometimes?)—and every now and then it even works out!
