“Being connected is a precious commodity. You can go to some developing countries around the world, and see that there are people living in hardship who would prefer to get their first mobile device over basic day-to-day necessities like a bathtub. That’s how precious connectivity is. The need to know the weather forecast, for example, which can impact things like if a farmer’s produce can make it safely to the market so he can feed himself and his family. That’s a question of life and death. Prosperity depends on connectivity.
“And you don’t have to go abroad to witness the hardships of the digital divide – there are 24 million Americans who currently do not have access to broadband technology.”
IN THE FUTURE
“Think of that just in terms of matters of healthcare. If you live in a city in the U.S., especially a large city, you have access to some of the best doctors on planet Earth. But what happens if you live in a rural area and you have a life-threatening accident or illness? 5G will allow almost everyone everywhere to also have access to the best surgeons, who can treat patients remotely in real-time, aided by technologies that will be possible because of 5G.
“Similarly, 5G will further serve rural America by allowing every aspect of farming to be digitized. Cyberfarming via sensors will make farms more productive, introducing new technologies so that farmers can monitor what’s happening with their crops, what’s happening with farm animals – day by day, hour by hour, reducing waste and increasing yields.
“5G will break down the barriers between cities and countryside, between the rich and the poor. It will smash the digital divide that exists in this country, and around the world. Just like the invention of the printing press and much later the Internet, 5G will be the next giant step forward in making knowledge, science and understanding available – to everyone in America, and the entire population of the Earth.
“Who knows how many more Albert Einsteins or Stephen Hawkings we’re going to see as a result of this very democratizing of knowledge itself.”
