*Tips for staying connected before, during and after any storm*
__Bellevue, Wash.__ – __May 27, 2015 –__ The National Hurricane Center at NOAA is anticipating seven named storms, three hurricanes and one major hurricane this year. In preparation for the storm season, and in an effort to help kick off National Hurricane Preparedness week, T-Mobile US, Inc. (NYSE: [TMUS](https://www.t-mobile.com/)) is providing customers with some important reminders and tips to help ensure they’re able to connect with family and loved ones before, during and after any storm.
- Make sure your phone is __fully charged__ before the storm, and have a plan to recharge your phone in case of a power outage, such as using your __car charger__ or having a [portable battery pack](http://find.t-mobile.com/controller?N=1000640&Ntk=primary&Ntt=Portable%20Battery%20Pack&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial) on-hand.
- __Conserve phone battery life__ during power outages by utilizing your phone’s power save mode, reducing use of apps and turning off LTE or switching to airplane mode.
- __Send a text__ instead of calling. Text messages are more likely to get through during high network usage periods since texts require fewer network resources.
- If you have to make a call, __keep your calls short__ so others can also get through. The number of calls spikes during severe weather events, so keep the lines free for emergency workers and your neighbors.
- __Keep your phone dry__ by storing it in a plastic bag or other waterproof covering.
- __Use__ [__Wi-Fi Calling__](https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1680) to conserve network resources or if cellular service is not available. Wi-Fi Calling allows T-Mobile customers with capable devices to text and make and receive voice calls via any Wi-Fi connection.
T-Mobile’s engineering team actively monitors weather patterns and prepares to keep customers and responders connected during storms. Backup generators and fuel tanks are readied and Command Centers are established in areas of expected impact.
“We’re hard at work every day to make sure T-Mobile delivers the best network experience possible – and that goes double in advance of big storms,” said Brian King, SVP of National Engineering Operations at T-Mobile. “When nature strikes, our team of experts rally to help customers maintain communication in the most critical of times.”
In advance of any hurricane forecasted to make landfall in the U.S., T-Mobile sets up an engineering Command Center near the expected area of impact, creating a home base for engineers and rapid response teams in the event they need to mobilize in the region. T-Mobile’s Network Operation Centers (NOCs) closely manage network traffic during natural disasters and are able to switch to the company’s several redundant back-up NOCs if needed.
Customers can stay up to date with the latest storm forecasts from NOAA’s National Weather Service at [weather.gov](http://www.weather.gov/) and [hurricanes.gov](http://www.hurricanes.gov/).
