Hotspot options for portable Wi-Fi.

What is a Wi-Fi hotspot?

A portable hotspot device or a mobile hotspot on your phone lets you share your high-speed data to connect more devices to the internet in more places—all powered by our nationwide network.

During congestion, hotspot users may notice lower speeds than other customers, and further reduction for heavy data users (>50GB/mo. for most plans), due to data prioritization; see plan for details. High-speed data on our network up to monthly allowance, then max 2G speeds for Mobile Internet plans and max 3G speeds for Mobile Hotspot.

Portable hotspot device or mobile internet hotspot?

Amp up your connection with a portable hotspot device.

We offer dedicated hotspot devices on data plans with up to 100GB of high-speed data so you can enjoy a more seamless portable Wi-Fi connection for your gaming consoles and laptops.

Plus, since hotspot devices have powerful antennas and bigger batteries, you can keep your mobile phone available and charged.

(Hotspot devices must be paired with a Hotspot data plan.)

Got questions?

What hotspot options do I have?

T-Mobile offers two great options for on-the-go internet connectivity—a mobile hotspot from your smartphone or a separate portable hotspot device that pairs with a hotspot data plan. With a hotspot data plan, you can choose from several plan options with different amounts of high-speed data, depending on your needs. To see pricing, check out our hotspot and tablet data plans.

By turning your smartphone into a mobile hotspot, you can securely share your smartphone's internet connection with up to ten devices on T-Mobile's high-speed nationwide network. Most of our current phone plans include 5 GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data and 3G data speeds after.

Do hotspot devices connect to T-Mobile's 4G LTE or 5G network?

Your hotspot device's speed and connection will depend on your device's capability. T-Mobile offers both 4G LTE and 5G hotspot devices based on your needs. If you're looking for fast 5G speeds on America's largest 5G network, check out the 5G-capable INSEEGO 5G Mifi® M2000, which can wirelessly connect up to 30 devices at a time and has a powerful battery to keep you connected all day long.

If you're looking for 4G LTE connectivity, we offer the Franklin T9, which supports up to 15 wireless-device connections, as well as the Alcatel Linkzone 2, which supports up to 16 wireless-device connections. Check them out to find the hotspot device that best fits your needs.

What is the difference between hotspot and MiFi®?

MiFi® is a registered trademark that many people use to refer to a hotspot device. Both MiFi® devices and hotspot devices allow you to connect to the internet on the go by creating a secure wireless network for you, your family, or friends.

Where does a mobile hotspot or hotspot device work?

Both mobile hotspot and device hotspot service is available anywhere you have T-Mobile network availability. Visit our coverage map to check 5G and 4G LTE coverage in your favorite areas.

How do I use my smartphone as a mobile hotspot?

By turning your phone into a mobile hotspot, your family and friends can use your connection when they don't have access to a public Wi-Fi network or cellular network of their own. Here's how to set it up:

For iPhone:

  • Go to Settings, tap Cellular, then Personal Hotspot. For newer phones, just go to Personal Hotspot. Then simply tap the slider next to Allow Others to Join.

For Android:

  • Open the Settings app, tap the Network & Internet option, select Hotspot & Tethering, then tap Wi-Fi hotspot. Configure your hotspot and then turn it on.

Can a hotspot replace home internet?

Hotspot devices, mobile hotspots, and their plans were made for limited high-speed data usage on the go. These are not intended to replace your home internet. For a high-speed internet connection at home, check out https://www.t-mobile.com/home-internet to see if it's available in your area.
