To help your installation go as smoothly as possible, here are a few things to do before your appointment:   - __Have an adult present.__Someone 18 or older will need to be home for the entire installation appointment. - __Keep pets safe.__We love pets, too! For everyone's safety, please keep them secured while the technician is working inside or outside your home. - __Have your current Wi-Fi information handy.__ If you'd like to keep your existing network name (SSID) and password, have them available during your appointment. Using the same Wi-Fi name and password can help many of your compatible devices reconnect automatically to your new T-Mobile Fiber network. - __Mark private underground lines.__ If you have sprinklers, an invisible pet fence, landscape lighting, or other privately installed underground lines, please mark or flag them before your appointment. This helps our technicians avoid them if any underground fiber work is needed. - __Make the installation area accessible.__ If possible, clear a path to where you'd like your Fiber equipment installed and ensure the technician has easy access to the outside of your home and the equipment location inside.   Our technician will walk you through the installation, answer any questions, and make sure your T-Mobile Fiber service is up and running before they leave. - ### How long does it usually take for fiber to become available in my neighborhood? We’re excited that you’re interested in T-Mobile Fiber! If Fiber isn’t available in your neighborhood just yet, we can’t provide an exact timeline for when service will arrive but the good news is that your area may already be in our expansion plans.    Bringing Fiber to a neighborhood involves several important steps, including evaluating existing infrastructure, mapping fiber routes, securing permits, and planning construction for the overall network. This process typically takes about __6–12 weeks__, though timelines can vary depending on local requirements and construction conditions.    The best way to stay informed is to [__join our waitlist__](https://fiber.t-mobile.com/waitlist). As soon as your neighborhood is ready, we’ll let you know when you can place a preorder or schedule your installation. - ### Why are there flags or paint in my yard? Flags and paint are temporary markings used to identify underground utilities before construction begins. These markings help our crews work safely and avoid existing utility lines as we expand the T-Mobile Fiber network.    Please leave all flags and markings in place until construction is complete, even if work hasn't started in front of your home yet. They play an important role in keeping everyone safe and protecting underground infrastructure.    Once construction is finished, our crews will remove any temporary flags. The marking paint is environmentally friendly and biodegradable, so it will naturally fade and wash away over the next few weeks. - ### How long will construction take? Construction timelines vary based on the size of the project, weather, permitting, and local conditions. While work throughout a neighborhood may take several weeks, activity directly in front of or near your home is often completed within just a few days.    Our crews are committed to completing the work __safely, efficiently, and with as little disruption as possible.__ We take pride in respecting your property and your neighborhood while building the network that will connect your community to the future.    We appreciate your patience as we work to bring fast, reliable T-Mobile Fiber to your neighborhood. It'll be worth the wait! - ### Will my lawn be repaired after construction? Yes. If construction impacts your lawn, landscaping, driveway, or other affected areas, we'll restore them as closely as possible to their original condition.    Depending on the work performed and the season, restoration may include reseeding, replacing sod, regrading soil, or repairing other disturbed areas. Some restoration work may need to wait for appropriate weather conditions to ensure the best results. - ### What is an easement or right-of-way? A utility easement (sometimes called a __right-of-way__) is a designated area on or near your property where utility providers are legally allowed to install, maintain, and repair essential infrastructure, like T-Mobile Fiber.    Easements are commonly located near streets, sidewalks, or along the front, side, or rear property lines. While the easement is part of your property, utility providers have the legal right to access these areas to build and maintain services that benefit your home and community.    We understand your property is important to you. That's why our crews work carefully to minimize disruption and restore affected areas as closely as possible to their original condition once work is complete. - ### Are permits or approvals required before construction begins? Yes. Before construction can begin, T-Mobile Fiber works with local municipalities and other agencies to obtain all required permits and approvals.    This process helps ensure construction is completed safely, responsibly, and in accordance with local regulations. Because permitting requirements vary by community, they can also affect construction timelines. - ### I have sprinklers, an invisible pet fence, landscape lighting, or other underground systems. What should I do? If you have any privately installed underground systems, such as sprinklers, invisible pet fences, landscape lighting, drainage lines, or other non-utility wiring please mark them before construction begins. Private lines are usually marked using white flags or paint.    While public utilities are professionally located before construction, privately installed systems typically aren't included in those markings. Letting us know in advance helps reduce the risk of accidental damage. ![](https://t-mobile.scene7.com/is/image/Tmusprod/Fiber_installation_video_thumbnail%3A16x9?ts=1787849442623&fmt=png&qlt=85%2C0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=1.75%2C0.3%2C2%2C0&dpr=off "Fiber_installation_video_thumbnail.png") How T-Mobile installs fiber. ![](https://t-mobile.scene7.com/is/image/Tmusprod/magnifying-glass-check-icon-11977403?ts=1787849442982&fmt=png-alpha&qlt=85%2C0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=1.75%2C0.3%2C2%2C0&dpr=off) __Locate existing utilities__ Crews mark underground utilities with flags and paint. ![](https://t-mobile.scene7.com/is/image/Tmusprod/shield-house-icon-11977403?ts=1787849443172&fmt=png-alpha&qlt=85%2C0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=1.75%2C0.3%2C2%2C0&dpr=off) __Expose utilities safely__ Carefully dig to expose and navigate around existing infrastructure. ![](https://t-mobile.scene7.com/is/image/Tmusprod/fiber-wires-icon-11977403?ts=1787849443319&fmt=png-alpha&qlt=85%2C0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=1.75%2C0.3%2C2%2C0&dpr=off) __Pull fiber through conduit__ Fiber is drawn through the pre-installed protective conduit to its destination. ![](https://t-mobile.scene7.com/is/image/Tmusprod/home-drill-icon-11977403?ts=1787849443515&fmt=png-alpha&qlt=85%2C0&resMode=sharp2&op_usm=1.75%2C0.3%2C2%2C0&dpr=off) Trenchless method Drilling about 36” deep using surface-launched rigs to minimize yard disturbance. They'll also answer any questions you have and make sure everything is working before they leave.    We're committed to delivering an exceptional installation experience, so you can sit back, relax, and get ready to enjoy fast, reliable Fiber internet with confidence. - ### What happens during fiber installation, and how long does it usually take? Most T-Mobile Fiber installations take __2–4 hours__, though the exact time may vary depending on your home's setup. Before any work begins, your Fiber technician will walk you through the installation process, answer your questions, and review the work that will be completed.   Here's what you can expect: - __A Fiber connection to your home.__ Your technician will install a small Fiber utility box on the outside of your home in a location that's approved by you. - __Minimal impact to your home.__ A small hole—smaller than a dime—will be made to bring the Fiber cable into your home. Your technician will ensure the entry point is properly sealed as part of the installation. - __Professional equipment setup.__ Your technician will install the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and place your T-Mobile Fiber Wi-Fi router in the best available location to provide strong coverage throughout your home. - __Wi-Fi optimization.__ Once your service is active, your technician will test your connection and Wi-Fi coverage and make any adjustments needed to help deliver the best possible performance. - __Getting you connected.__ Before leaving, your technician will help connect up to three of your most important devices—typically your smartphone, computer, and primary TV—so you can start enjoying your new Fiber service right away. If one of your devices has trouble connecting due to device-specific settings or compatibility, you may be referred to the device manufacturer for additional support.     Want to see the process before installation day? __Watch our T-Mobile Fiber installation video__ [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PRrKPvi_2Y)! - ### How deep is the fiber buried? The depth of buried Fiber varies based on local requirements, existing utilities, and the installation method used in your area.    To help keep everyone safe, __always call 811 before digging__ or starting landscaping projects. In most states, calling 811 is required by law and helps identify underground utility lines before you dig, reducing the risk of accidental damage. - ### What is a fiber pedestal? A fiber pedestal is a small neighborhood utility enclosure that provides access to the T-Mobile Fiber network. It allows our technicians to connect homes and maintain reliable service throughout the neighborhood.    Pedestal locations are carefully planned to support the network and while minimizing the impact on surrounding properties and landscaping. - ### What should I do if I think my property was damaged during construction? We take great care to treat your property with respect and complete construction as safely and cleanly as possible.    If you believe your property was damaged during construction, please contact us at [Fiber\_Construction@t-mobile.com](mailto:Fiber_Construction@t-mobile.com) as soon as possible. We'll investigate your concern and, if the damage is related to our work, we'll make it right as quickly as possible. - ### Can I get fiber internet without paying for installation or equipment? Yes! Professional installation and a T-Mobile Fiber modem and Wi-Fi router are included with your T-Mobile Fiber service at no additional cost.    You're also welcome to use your own compatible router or mesh Wi-Fi system if you prefer. However, we recommend using the T-Mobile Fiber router to ensure the best experience, access to supported features, and the easiest troubleshooting if you ever need assistance.    If you choose to use your own networking equipment, our technician will connect your T-Mobile Fiber service to your home, but they __won't be able to install, configure, or troubleshoot customer-owned routers or mesh systems.__ Setting up and managing your personal equipment is your responsibility. - ### Is T-Mobile Fiber construction and installation safe? Yes. Safety is our top priority.    Before construction begins, underground utilities are professionally located and marked to help protect existing infrastructure. Our crews follow industry best practices, local regulations, and strict safety standards to complete construction and installation safely while minimizing disruption to your property and neighborhood. - ### If I live in an apartment, can I still get fiber installed? __Yes!__ T-Mobile Fiber is available at many apartment communities and multi-dwelling properties. The easiest way to see if service is available is to __check your address__ [here](https://fiber.t-mobile.com/check-address).    If your address is eligible, __be sure to check with your landlord or property manager before your installation appointment.__ Many apartment communities and rental properties require landlord or property management approval before Fiber can be installed. Having approval in advance can help prevent delays or the need to reschedule your installation. - ### Can I move my fiber service to a new address? T-Mobile Fiber is __rapidly expanding__, and we also offer __T-Mobile High-Speed Internet__ in many areas. The first step is to __check your new address__ [here](https://fiber.t-mobile.com/check-address), to see which T-Mobile internet services are available.    While we don't currently support transferring (or "moving") an existing Fiber service from one address to another, we've made the process simple: We'll schedule a __new installation__ at your new address if T-Mobile Fiber is available and get you set up with the latest and greatest equipment. - Once you're ready to move, give us a call us to __disconnect service at your previous address__ and we will send you a return label for your current equipment. - __You'll keep the same T-Mobile account__, so your relationship with us continues and your loyalty is recognized.   The best part? Because there are __no annual service contracts__, you don't have to worry about transferring a contract. Your new address also qualifies for any __eligible new customer pricing and promotional offers__ available at that location, giving you the opportunity to take advantage of our latest offers while staying with T-Mobile.   If T-Mobile Fiber isn't available at your new address just yet, be sure to check whether __T-Mobile High-Speed Internet__ is available, we're continuing to expand both services to bring fast, reliable internet to more homes every day. - ### Why isn't T-Mobile Fiber available in my neighborhood yet? We're excited to bring T-Mobile Fiber to more communities, and we're expanding our network as quickly as possible.    Building a Fiber network takes time and involves careful planning, engineering, permitting, and construction. Every neighborhood is unique, so timelines can vary.    If Fiber isn't available at your address today, the best way to stay informed is to __[check your address](https://fiber.t-mobile.com/check-address) and [join our waitlist](https://fiber.t-mobile.com/waitlist).__ We'll let you know as soon as your neighborhood is ready for preorders or installation. In the meantime, be sure to check whether __T-Mobile High-Speed Internet__ is available at your address—we offer fast, reliable internet solutions in many areas while our Fiber network continues to grow. - ### What changes will be made to my home during installation? Every installation is a little different, but most require a small Fiber line to be brought to your home through a hole __smaller than a dime__. Your technician will also install a small Fiber utility box on the outside of your home, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) inside, and your T-Mobile Fiber Wi-Fi router in the best available location for strong coverage.    Before any work begins, your technician will review the installation with you, answer your questions, and work with you to choose equipment locations whenever possible. They'll complete the installation with care, minimize any impact to your home and property, and make sure everything is working before they leave. ## Hello!
