Samsung Galaxy’s wildly popular Z Flip devices made it clear that flip phones are here to stay. With the arrival of the Z Flip6 and all its bells and whistles, Samsung is proving once again that these are not your grandparent’s flip phones. We’ll take a look at the Z Flip6 vs. Z Flip5 so you can decide if it’s time for an upgrade.
Let’s start with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 specs.

Brains and brawn—all wrapped up in a sleek little package—is the name of the game with the new Z Flip6. Not only does it get the latest and greatest Samsung chipset, it also comes with the longest lasting battery (4,000mAh) and the most powerful camera on any Galaxy Z Flip. The upgraded 50MP wide rear camera powered by the AI ProVisual Engine makes it easier than ever to capture details and create stunning portraits. Best of all, Galaxy AI is already baked-in to this latest flip phone and brings with it all the features you’d expect and more, including:
- FlexCam: Capture stunning hands-free photos from any angle using FlexCam with Galaxy AI as it frames your shot automatically.
- Photo Assist delivers effortless editing with literally the touch of your finger.
- Circle to Search with Google on the interior screen.
- Interpreter lets you chat in another language while FlexMode displays your language on one screen and theirs on the other.
- Note Assist lets you take notes, create shopping lists and more while Galaxy AI automatically organizes and summarizes it all.
- Portrait Studio turns your selfies into stylized works of art like cartoons, watercolors, etc.
- Instant Slo-mo adds drama to any video with a tap of your finger.
- Live Effect instantly creates depth, bringing any photo to life.
Upgrading to the new Z Flip will also cost you more than the last time around, as the starting price is $100 higher than that of its predecessor. Now let’s take a look at the Z Flip5 to get a better idea of what’s different.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5
- Cover Display:3.4" Super AMOLED (1,600 nits brightness)
- Main Display: 6.7" Dynamic AMOLED 2X (1,750 nits brightness)
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy
- Cameras: Rear 12MP Wide, 10MP Front, 12MP Ultra Wide (10X Digital Zoom)
- 3,700mAh battery
- Storage: 256GB / 512GB
- RAM: 8GB
- IPX8 rating
- Color options: Cream, Graphite, Mint and Lavender
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is still a great phone. While the screens on the newer version get a brightness boost, they stay on par size-wise with those of the Z Flip5. While this phone has less battery power, less RAM and only has an IPX8 rating (doesn’t protect from dust), those who are casual users probably won’t notice a huge difference. If you love taking pictures and must have the upgraded 50MP wide rear camera powered by the new ProVisual Engine, you might want to consider the other phone, as it’s not an option on this one. The good news is, you’ll still have access to many of the same Galaxy AI features as the Z Flip6, with the exception of some of the creative camera capabilities like Portrait Studio, Instant Slo-mo and Live Effect.
